Welcome aboard to this Midweek Preview where I’ll be focusing on Newbury and Ludlow as I have three selections throughout the afternoon to share with you all. As ever, make sure to gamble responsibly if you are punting.
1.25 Newbury: JM Finn Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase: I’ll be kicking things off on Wednesday with the 1.25 at Newbury which is a handicap chase over two miles and seven and a half furlongs. I think that this can go to Theatre Man for Richard Bandey and Harry Bannister, he progressed nicely last term as a novice hurdler and developed into a very consistent type and continued that trend on chasing debut here last time when second behind the highly regarded Inch House. If continuing said progression he should go close again here. Theatre Man – 2/1 (Win)
1.50 Ludlow: Tanners Champagne Handicap Chase: Moving over to Ludlow now for the 1.50 which is a handicap chase over two miles. This is extremely competitive for a small field, with the favourite currently trading at 9/4 and the outsider at 3/1. I’m going to take my chance with Dr T J Eckleburg for Evan Williams and Adam Wedge. He’s really found his feet as of late and has started to show some of the early promise he showed when with Olly Murphy in his novice hurdling days. The other rivals have somewhat to find on recent form, whereas he’s seemingly going better than ever. Dr T J Eckleburg – 5/2 (Win)
2.00 Newbury: Make Your Best Bet At BetVictor Mares’ Chase: Back to Newbury now for the 2.00 which is a listed mares chase contested over two miles and seven and a half furlongs. This looks to be all about Gaila Des Liteaux for Dan & Harry Skelton. She looked better than ever when making her return to the track at Market Rasen last month, winning what was also a listed mares chase by four and a half lengths, if she turns up in the same kind of form she’ll be tough to beat. 3.10 Newbury: Hooorrrrraaayyy It’s Christmas Queens Arms Handicap Chase: My fourth and final pick for the day comes from the 3.10 at Newbury which is a handicap chase over two miles and half of a furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Martator here who’s currently an 8/1 chance for Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. He’s not shown a great deal of form since joining this yard from France, however, he’s now dropped down to a mark that he should at least be competitive off, and he didn’t run too badly last time out at Aintree.
