Coral Gold Cup Day
NAP: INDEMNITY – (2.15)
NB: FRENCH SHIP – (1.40)

1.40 Newbury: FRENCH SHIP won impressively last time out at Cheltenham in a competitive twenty-runner handicap hurdle, getting the better of Navajo Indy by three and three-quarters of a length, keeping on strongly. That was just his second run within handicap company, and he could still be progressing. He has to be considered a serious player again for Phillip Hobbs & Johnson White, with Harry Cobden in the saddle. (4/1) (Win) (NB)

2.00 Newcastle: CONSTITUTION HILL was a shadow of his former self on his final start of last season at the Punchestown Festival, finishing a distance behind State Man, and before that, falling at both Aintree and Cheltenham. However, Nicky Henderson has had plenty of success when bringing champions back to the top table, and the eight-year-old would be good enough to take this if he’s anywhere back to somewhere near his best. He’s still clear on ratings, and it would be great for the sport to see him return to the winner’s enclosure. (15/8) (Win)

2.15 Newbury: INDEMNITY was a useful performer on the flat, and has taken to life over obstacles very encouragingly, having already won three times for Emma Lavelle. Most recently, he travelled strongly in a competitive Class 2 handicap at Ascot, before eventually finishing second to the highly-promising Alexei, who has since gone on to win the Greatwood at Cheltenham. That form looks rock-solid, and he should prove to be a significant player here off just a pound higher mark than that Ascot effort. (9/2) (Win) (NAP)

2.55 Newbury: O’MOORE PARK has some very solid form to his name within competitive handicap, notably, when finishing third behind Caldwell Potter at last season’s Cheltenham Festival, before following up with a second-placed effort at the April Meeting at Cheltenham, when three-quarters of a length behind Riskintheground. He’s only a pound higher here than both of those efforts, and he’ll have race fitness on his side following a second-placed effort at Galway last month. He could outrun a big price for Willie Mullins. (25/1) (Each-Way)

3.15 Newcastle: JASMIN DE GRUGY has progressed rapidly through the ranks over the last eighteen months, and he signed off his campaign last term with a fine second of twelve within a competitive Listed handicap chase at the Punchestown Festival, behind the useful Bill Baxter. He’ll carry a low weight around here, and he shouldn’t have any issues with the distance or ground, as he’s versatile ground-wise. He’s got every chance of continuing hIS progression for Anthony Honeyball. (5/1) (Each-Way)

3.35 Newbury: JAVERT ALLEN was slightly underwhelming when sent off the favourite for his seasonal reappearance at Aintree earlier this month, finishing fourth of nine and five lengths behind the talented Mambonumberfive, who won here on Friday. It’s almost certain that he’ll progress from that run, though, and should be a lot sharper for this particular assignment. He’s a course and distance winner, and is only a pound higher than he finished a shoulder second of seven in a Class 2 handicap at Chepstow back in February. The Jane Williams yard is also operating at a thirty per cent strike rate at the time of writing. (9/2) (Each-Way)
