Featured Meeting: Ayr

2.15: Virgin Bet Every Saturday Money Back Handicap Chase: A slightly different way of doing the blog, now doing individual days with a feature meeting and we kick things off with the 2.15 at Ayr which is a handicap chase over two miles and half of a furlong. I’m with the old boy Moonlighter here for Kim Bailey and Ciaran Gethings, he’s dropped down to a mark that is four pounds lower than his last winning one, and despite his age, he should still be making his presence felt in a race of this calibre. Moonlighter – 15/2 (Each-Way)

3.20: Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places Maiden Hurdle: Next up for me is the 3.20 which is a maiden hurdle that’s ridden over two miles and four and a half furlongs. I think that this can go to Myretown for Lucinda Russell and Derek Fox. He’s a winner from the pointing sphere and finished a very respectable second behind the useful Joshua Des Flos here last month on his hurdling debut, a fair distance clear of third. If progressing from that effort he’ll be a big player here. Myretown – 2/1 (Win)

3.55: Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Handicap Hurdle: The 3.55 is where I turn my focus to next which is a handicap hurdle over three miles and half of a furlong. I like the chances of Teescomponentstrig here for Gillian Boanas and Brian Hughes. He arrives here having finished second on his last two outings, with his most recent run coming at Newcastle in a higher grade of race. He still looks to be on a manageable mark and if he turns up in the same kind of form as his last run he should go very close. Teescomponentstrig – 4/1 (Win)

4.30: Virgin Bet Fives Handicap Chase: My final selection of the afternoon comes in the 4.30 which is a handicap chase over three miles. I’m with Artic Breeze here who represents Lucinda Russell and Stephen Mulqueen. He was second on his seasonal reappearance at Market Rasen on Boxing Day, in what was his chasing debut, and if naturally coming on for that run he should have every chance of going closer here off the same mark. Artic Breeze – 7/2 (Win)
