Friday’s Bets. (09/10/26) (Newmarket & York)

Friday 9th October 2026

1.15 Newmarket – (Cornwallis Stakes) (G3) (5f)

The standard is set here by the Simon & Ed Crisford-trained FLANN SUNNA, who’s set to be ridden by William Buick. He was an impressive winner at both Windsor and Ascot on his first two starts, and put a slightly underwhelming display at Goodwood behind him last time out, finishing third in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster, in what was his first attempt at five furlongs. That’s possibly the best form on offer here, and there could be a lot more to come from him. Mussab merits plenty of respect for the Fahey team; he was an excellent third in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, and comes here following back-to-back victories in the novice & Listed company.

Flann Sunna – (11/4) (Win) (NB)

1.30 York – (Class 3 Handicap) (1m)

Ralph Beckett’s BEAGLE BAY has won three of his four starts this term, and was last seen in June when getting the better of the subsequent John Smith’s Cup winner Raammee at Sandown. That rival followed up his John Smith’s Cup victory with a success at the Ebor Festival, and is now rated 110, giving that piece of form an incredibly strong feel to it. There’s a high probability that the Beckett colt could be significantly better than this level, and a bold showing could well be on the cards. Kevin Ryan’s Henlein was back to form off a reduced mark at Ascot last time out, and merits respect off the same mark here, and Power Fizz also enters calculations for William Haggas; he won a Class 3 handicap over seven furlongs here last time out.

Beagle Bay – (5/2) (Win) (NAP)

1.50 Newmarket – (Oh So Sharp Stakes) (G3) (7f)

The Amo Racing-owned Nuit d’Eclair is an obvious player at the top of the betting here for Kevin Philippart De Foy; a repeat of her run in the Sweet Solera Stakes here, where she finished half a length second of seven, would give her a serious chance under David Egan. I’ve sided with SIENA STORM, though, for the team of Ed Walker and Kieran Shoemark. She got the better of Clarity on her penultimate start, and that rival has since come out and won a decent Class 2 maiden at Ascot. Last time out she was fourth of eight at Goodwood in Group 3 company; however, she didn’t get a clear run on that occasion. There should be significant improvement still to come from this Night Of Thunder filly, and if she gets a bit more luck in the run on this occasion, she’s got every chance.

Siena Storm – (5/1) (Each-Way)
