I’ve had one bet this afternoon, and it comes from Ascot in the 2.30, the Class 3 Charbonnel Et Walker EBF Maiden Stakes, contested over seven furlongs. I like the chances of SAN JOSE here for the team of Brian Meehan and James Doyle. He posted a promising debut at Newbury last month, finishing fourth of thirteen, and should take a big step forward in his second outing here, as experience is often key in these contests. He’s also entered in the Royal Lodge as well as the Dewhurst, so connections clearly hold him in decent regard, and I think he’ll go close in this. Roger Varian’s Chymbulak was second on his only start to date at Kempton, albeit five and a half lengths behind the winner; however, he should also take a significant step forward. Out of the newcomers, Simon & Ed Crisford have been in fine form with their two-year-olds; therefore, Shimmering Shadow has to enter the equation with William Buick on board.
Selection: San Jose – (3/1) (Win) (NAP)
Shortlist: Chymbulak (5/1), Shimmering Shadow (5/2)
