Thursday’s Bets. (08/10/26)

Thursday 8th October 2026

2.05 Bath – (Class 4 Novice) (5f)

As is often the case with these novice events, there will be improvement from several in the field; however, the Richard Hughes-trained KERRY GREY makes plenty of appeal under David Probert. She’s a Havana Grey filly who was a £100,000 breeze-up buy, and posted a very encouraging effort on debut at Wolverhampton last month when finishing a length third of seven, keeping to her task well. She should almost certainly take a big step forward second time out here, and a bold showing would be no surprise. Urumita produced a much improved effort at Wolverhampton last time out, and is likely to feature again here on her fourth start.

3.15 Bath – (Beckford Stakes) (Listed) (1m 6f)

Both Brilliant Star and Venetia will be popular here as they already have the form in the book within pattern company, with the former the likely one to beat for the Gosden’s. I’ve tried to take them on, though, with the highly progressive PIERIAN for William Haggas and Tom Marquand. She’s won three times already this campaign, including on handicap debut at this course last time out, where she rallied well despite being outpaced. That run suggests that she should relish this step up in distance, and whilst she’s got a bit to find on official ratings with those at the top of the betting, she represents a yard that excels with improvers.

Pierian – (11/2) (Each-Way)

3.30 Ayr – (Class 4 Handicap) (6f)

This is a highly competitive 0-85 affair could well go the way of TOPWARRIOR, who represents the team of Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch. He bounced back to form last time out at Hamilton, finishing second of nine, down by just a head, and he remains on the same mark here, which is the same as his last winning one. That run also came in a higher grade, and he’ll be at home on the likely heavy going. There’s a lot in his favour here, and he could go very close. Course-and-distance winner Eye Of Dubai takes a significant drop in grade for the Quinn’s and merits plenty of respect at this level.

Topwarrior – (7/2) (Win) (NAP)
