Sandown Selections
2.10: Texas At Sandown Park 7 August Handicap
We get things underway at Sandown on Thursday with the 2.10, which is a Class 4 handicap over five furlongs. The unexposed Silver Wraith can go well here for Emma Lavelle and Oisin Murphy. She’s run well in both handicap starts so far, in particular at Goodwood a couple of starts back, when finishing second. She’s only a pound higher than that run here, and should continue to progress.
SILVER WRAITH – 5/1 (Each-Way)

2.45: Martin Densham & Peter Deal Memorial British EBF Maiden Stakes
Next up is the 2.45, which is a Class 4 maiden that’s ridden over seven furlongs. This should go to Publish for John & Thady Gosden and James Doyle. He was extremely unlucky on debut over course and distance, when half of a length second in what was probably a hot contest. He should make amends here. Bosom Pals could be an each-way alternative at a big price; she progressed from her debut to finish second at Southwell last time and can take another step forward.
PUBLISH – 1/2 (Win) & BOSOM PALS – 33/1 (Each-Way)

3.20: European Bloodstock News EBF Star Stakes
The third race of the day is the Listed Star Stakes for the fillies over seven furlongs. Orion’s Belt should go very close here for Richard Hannon and Sam Hitchcott. She made significant improvement from her debut to win by three and three-quarters of a length at Newmarket last time out. There should be plenty more to come.
ORION’S BELT – 9/4 (Win) (NB)

3.55: George Lindon-Travers Memorial Handicap
We’re back into handicap company at 3.55 with a Class 3 handicap over a mile and six furlongs. Pendragon will be a warm order here chasing a four-timer; however, I think that Tarriance could get his head in front on handicap debut here for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy. He faces off with Gravitas here for the third time, and the scores are currently level between them. However, I think that this further step up in trip could unlock further improvement in the Balding charge, and he could be useful.
TARRIANCE – 4/1 (Each-Way)

4.30: Aspen Insurance Handicap
The penultimate race of the day is the 4.30, and this is a Class 4 handicap that’s ridden over a mile and two furlongs. It could pay to side with Man Of Desert here for Chris Dwyer and Silvestre De Sousa. He showed a marked improvement last time out when finishing fourth at Yarmouth, keeping on in the closing stages, and he remains unexposed. He could have a big say here off a pound lower mark.
MAN OF DESERT – 15/8 (Win) (NAP)

5.00: Racing Welfare Fillies’ Handicap
Signing us off for the afternoon is the 5.00 and this is a Class 5 fillies’ handicap over a mile and two furlongs. Jamie Osborne’s Gloryous could be a solid each-way play here at the current prices under William Carson. She’s yet to win after seven starts, however, posted her best effort to date at Yarmouth last week when a neck second of five. She’s a pound well-in here, and has every chance of going close again.
GLORYOUS – 6/1 (Each-Way)
