Wednesday’s Best Bets

3.00: Catterick

The first of my picks on Wednesday comes within the 3.00 at Catterick, and this is a Class 5 handicap over seven furlongs. William Haggas’s Magic Box should prove tough to beat here under Cieren Fallon. She was a winner on her handicap debut at Kempton on her penultimate start, before following up with a fine second-placed effort at Hamilton at the weekend. There should be more to come here off the same mark.

MAGIC BOX – 13/8 (Win) (NB)

3.50: Salisbury

My second pick comes from Salisbury and the 3.50, which is a Class 5 handicap that’s contested over a mile. I’ve come down on Moutai here for the team of Ed Walker and Hector Crouch. He’s run well in both of his starts within handicap company to date, including a fine third to the progressive Impartiality on his penultimate start. He remains on the same mark here and should go close again.

MOUTAI – 4/1 (Win)

4.20: Salisbury

I’m staying at Salisbury for my third selection of the afternoon, and the 4.20, which is Class 6 handicap action over five furlongs. I think that the Dennis Coakley trained Phoenix Moon could go well here under seven-pound claimer Jack Callan. She’s not been at her best since returning to the turf in her last two starts; however, both of those runs came within higher grades at Newbury and Ascot. She should find this Class 6 event easier, and she could be well treated with a seven-pound claimer on her back.

PHOENIX MOON – 5/1 (Each-Way)

5.00: Catterick

My fourth and final selection comes back at Catterick and within the 5.00, which is a Class 6 handicap that’s contested over a distance of six furlongs. I’m strong on the chances of Crocodile Power here for Seb Spencer and Dale Swift. He’s a three-time course and distance winner, including a solid second-placed effort here on his penultimate start. He followed that up with another encouraging run at Ayr last time out, when a length third of sixteen, and a return to the winner’s enclosure looks forthcoming.

CROCODILE POWER – 9/4 (Win) (NAP)
