Saturday Preview (30)

12.48 Sandown: Daily Tips On Betting.Betfair ‘Introductory’ Juvenile Hurdle: Kicking things off at Sandown for their two-day Tingle Creek Meeting will be the 12.48 which is a Class 2 juvenile hurdle over two miles. I’m strong on the chances of Hot Fuss in this for Tom Dascombe and David Bass. He was a smart horse on the flat as he had a rating that was as high as 95 at one stage, and he started to transfer that ability over hurdles at Wincanton last month when second of ten and four lengths behind East India Dock. That rival since went on to bolt up at Cheltenham and is now favourite for the Triumph Hurdle, which is form that speaks for itself. The Dascombe charge should prove tough to beat. Hot Fuss – Evs (Win) (NAP)

1.23 Sandown: Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Handicap Chase: Next up is the 1.23 which is a Class 3 handicap chase that’s contested over a mile and seven and a half furlongs. I like Mount Tempest here for the team of Dan & Harry Skelton. He was fourth of twelve on his seasonal reappearance behind the progressive Jagwar at Bangor last month but should strip a lot fitter for that outing here. He’s also dropped back down to two miles which should suit him better and is only three pounds higher than when bolting up by eight-lengths at Wetherby back in January. Mount Tempest – 15/8 (Win)

1.58 Sandown: Betfair Winter Novices’ Hurdle: We move up in grade at 1.58 with the Grade 2 Winter Novices’ Hurdle that’s ridden over a distance of two miles and four furlongs. I’m with Quebecois in this particular affair for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. He was very impressive on his hurdling debut at Chepstow back in October, getting the better of a thirteen-runner field by eight lengths. What’s also notable about that particular success is that a lot of the yards runners needed a run on their first outing of the campaign. He should naturally build on that run and he looks as though he could be an exciting prospect. Quebecois – 5/2 (Win)

2.33 Sandown: Betfair Esher Novices’ Chase: It’s more Grade 2 action at 2.33 this time over the larger obstacles with the Esher Novices’ Chase over three miles. I’ve sided with Handstands here who represents the team of Ben Pauling and Ben Jones. He was a faller on his chasing debut at Wincanton last month within Grade 2 company and was sent off the 7/4 favourite for that particular assignment. Last term he was a Listed winner over hurdles so clearly has a significant amount of ability and I think that he remains a nice prospect to move forward with. If his fall last time hasn’t knocked too much out of him he’s got every chance to make amends here. Handstands – 11/4 (Win)

3.03 Sandown: Bet At Your Best With Betfair Handicap Chase: The penultimate race of the afternoon is the 3.30 which is a Class 3 handicap chase that’s ridden over three miles. I’m taking a chance on one of the more exposed runners here in Tea Clipper for Tom Lacey and Carmeon Iles who takes off a very handy 7 pounds. It’s been a very long time since he was in the winner’s enclosure, however, he did show signs of life last time out at Exeter when finishing third of six in another Class 3 handicap and just two lengths behind the winner. He’s effectively six pounds lower here from that run when you take the rider’s claim into consideration and if he’s ever to win again this would be the mark to do it off. Tea Clipper – 8/1 (Each-Way)

3.35 Sandown: Betfair Racing Podcasts Novices’ Handicap Hurdle: The concluding race comes up at 3.35 and this is a Class 4 novice handicap hurdle over two miles. I think that this can go to Fasol who’s another for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. He was smart on the level and was well-fancied on his hurdling and stable debut last time out at Cheltenham when finishing fourth of fifteen in a competitive handicap. He will have learned a great deal for that effort and he’s in calmer waters here, it would be disappointing should he not progress from that run and go very close in this, given he had a rating of 101 when on the flat. Fasol – 11/4 (Win) (NB)
