Glorious Goodwood Day 5 Preview

Author: Jordan Yates (@jordan_yates)

1.50: Coral Glorious Stakes: It’s the final day of Glorious Goodwood and we get things underway with the 1.50 once more, which is the Group 3 Glorious Stakes over a mile and four furlongs on Saturday. I’ve gone with Al Aasy here for William Haggas and Jim Crowley. He posted a solid effort on his seasonal reappearance at Newbury last time out when finishing second in Listed company and I expect he’ll build on that run here. He’s got plenty of class and should be involved in a race of this nature. Al Aasy – 7/2 (Win) (NB)

2.25: Coral Summer Handicap: The second race of the day is the 2.25 which is a Class 2 handicap that’s ridden over a mile and six furlongs. I’m strong on the chances of Align The Stars here for Charlie Johnston and Joe Fanning. He comes into the race in fine form having won his last two outings in handicap company and was entered in Group 3 company here on Thursday before being withdrawn. That suggests connections think he could well be better than this level and I think another bold showing is on the cards here. Align The Stars – 3/1 (Win) (NAP)

3.00: Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes: It’s back up in class at 3.00 with the Group 2 Lillie Langtry Stakes over a mile and six furlongs for fillies & mares. I like Caius Chorister here who represents the team of David Menuisier and Harry Bentley. She was too free last time out in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, however, looked highly progressive before that going down by just a head to the smart Coltrane and Sweet William in back-to-back Group 3s. She’s versatile ground-wise and back among this company can make her presence felt. Caius Chorister – 4/1 (Win)

3.35: Coral Stewards’ Cup: My final selection of the week comes in the 3.35 which is the feature race of the day and of the most competitive contests in the Stewards Cup, a Heritage Handicap over six furlongs. I have actually had some success in this race in the past and in this year’s renewal of the race I like Purosangue for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy. He’s a progressive three-year-old who had smart form to his name last term and added to said form with a fine effort in the Group 3 Coral Charge at Sandown last month when finishing three-quarters of a length second to Makarova. He’s well-in here and if getting some luck in the run can have a big say. Purosangue – 8/1 (Each-Way)
