Glorious Goodwood Day 4 Preview

1.50: Coral Goodwood Handicap: We kick things off on Day 4 of Glorious Goodwood with more handicap action with a two miles and four and half furlongs Class 2 affair at 1.50. I’m with Vino Victrix here for Hughie Morrison and Benoit De La Sayette. He seems to like it around here and ran another solid race at the track when second on his penultimate start back in June. He didn’t feature last time out at Newmarket, however, he should be more at home here and should he get this distance he has every chance of being involved at a nice price. Vino Victrix – 11/1 (Each-Way)
2.25: Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes: My second selection of the afternoon comes in the 2.25 which is the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes over a mile. I’m taking a chance on Task Force here who’s currently a 7/1 chance for Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan. He was second in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes on his final start as a two-year-old and wasn’t totally disgraced when seventh in the Guineas behind Notable Speech on his seasonal reappearance. He was four and three-quarters of a length behind Haatem when also seventh in the Jersey Stakes last time out and I don’t think this race is as deep. I still think he’s got significant potential and can prove a solid each-way play in this. Task Force – 7/1 (Each-Way)
3.00: Coral Golden Mile: We move back into handicap company at 3.00 with the Coral Golden Mile taking centre-stage, a Heritage Handicap over a mile. I’ve gone with Orbaan here for David O’Meara and Silvestre De Sousa. He won the race off the same mark back in 2022 and has been in sold form as of late, winning on his penultimate outing at Carlisle last month. He’s got a low draw which is generally what is needed for this particular affair and I think he can once again have a big say, with a rider on board who has already tasted success at this meeting this week. Orbaan – 14/1 (Each-Way)
3.35: King George Qatar Stakes: Next up it’s the feature race of the afternoon and that’s the Group 2 King George Qatar Stakes over five furlongs. I’m with Believing here who represents the team of George Boughey and Billy Loughnane. She’s a rock-solid filly and continued her progression on her most recent outing when winning the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh last month, getting the better of Beautiful Diamond in impressive style by just shy of two lengths. She’s versatile on how she can be ridden and there’s every chance of another bold showing here. Believing – 11/2 (Each-Way) (NB)
4.10: Regent Seven Seas Cruises Bentinck Conditions Stakes: It’s a conditions event up next at 4.10 which is set to be ridden over a distance of a mile and a furlong. I’m strong on the chances of My Prospero here for William Haggas and Tom Marquand. This is his first run of the campaign, but he’s gone well fresh in the past and I think he’s the best horse in here by a fair margin. He’s got a whole host of impressive form to his name, including an all-important course win to his name which came in the Listed Foundation Stakes here last term. If he’s ready to go he’s the one they all have to beat. My Prospero – 5/2 (Win) (NAP)
4.45: Hawes & Curtis Nursery Handicap: My final selection of the day comes in the 4.45 which is a Class 2 nursery handicap over six furlongs. I like Sex On Fire here for the team of Richard Spencer and Jamie Spencer. He founded Listed company a bit too hot at Royal Ascot when finishing midfield in the Windsor Castle Stakes, however, seemed to find his level on handicap debut at Haydock last month when finishing a neck second, running on strongly at the end. There could be a lot of pace on here which could suit him, in particular, with Spencer on board. Sex On Fire – 9/1 (Each-Way)
