1.35 Ascot: Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash: Welcome aboard to this week’s Saturday Preview where it’s Shergar Cup Day at Ascot. My first pick comes in the Dash over five furlongs and I like Badri here for Michael Herrington and Marie Velon. He was just a length and a half behind Jordan Electrics in second place last time out and is better off at the weights with that rival this time around. He’ll contest this off the same mark as that latest run, which was his best effort for a while, and if getting some luck can go close in this. Badri – 5/1 (Each-Way)

2.10 Ascot: Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers: My second selection of the afternoon comes in the 2.10 at Ascot which is the Stayers event over two miles. I’m chancing Spirit Mixer here for Andrew Balding who’s the mount of Marie Velon. He drops back down in trip here having finished fifth of eighteen over two miles and four and a half furlongs at Goodwood last time. That was a decent effort and despite that, he’s been dropped a further pound, he looks well-handicapped to me and has every chance here. Spirit Mixer – 6/1 (Each-Way)

2.45 Ascot: Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Challenge: Next up for me is the 2.45 at Ascot and this is the Shergar Cup Challenge over a mile and four furlongs. I’ve gone with Truthful here for the team of William Haggas and Hayley Turner. She was quite underwhelming on her seasonal reappearance when he was well beaten at Newmarket last month, however, that came within Listed company and this represents an ease in grade for her. She should be progressing from that run last time and she should have enough ability to make her presence felt in a race of this nature. Truthful – 7/2 (Win)

3.00 Haydock: Betfred Rose Of Lancaster Stakes: It’s up in grade now and over to Haydock for the Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes over a mile and two and a half furlongs. I think this can go to Anmaat for Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley. Despite this being his first run of the season, I think he’s the class horse in the race here as he showed when last seen at Longchamp last year when taking the Group 1 Prix d’lspahan. He has been off the track for a long time, however, if he’s anywhere near his best he should take a lot of beating against this opposition. Anmaat – 15/8 (Win) (NB)

3.40 Newmarket: JenningsBet Sweet Solera Stakes: My fifth and final selection of the day comes from Newmarket and in their 4.10 which is the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes over seven furlongs. I’m strong on the chances of Mountain Breeze here for Charlie Appleby and Pat Dobbs. She won both of her first two starts which came on the Roley Mile course here and has since finished a very solid fourth of sixteen in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot before finishing a close-up second in Group 2 company at this track last month. She has the best form on offer and if she continues to progress she’ll be tough to beat. Mountain Breeze – 15/8 (Win) (NAP)
