Glorious Goodwood Day 3 Preview

1.50: Coral Kincsem Handicap: My first pick of the afternoon on Day 3 of Glorious Goodwood comes in the opener at 1.50 which is a Class 2 handicap over a mile and two furlongs. I’m with Palace Green here for the team of Richard Hughes and Oisin Murphy. He had no luck when last seen at Royal Ascot when finishing sixth of twelve in the Golden Gates handicap and he likely has a lot more to offer should he get more luck in the run on this occasion. The stable form is a slight concern, however, at 6/1 I think this runner looks a very solid bet. Palace Green – 6/1 (Each-Way)

2.25: Markel Richmond Stakes: Next up it’s Group 2 action with the Richmond Stakes over six furlongs. I like the chances of Tropical Storm here who represents Andrew Balding and is another ride for Oisin Murphy. He’s still a maiden after three starts but has been knocking on the door and posted a fine effort when last seen at Royal Ascot where he finished second of thirteen in the Norfolk Stakes. A repeat of that level of form could well be enough for him to notch up his first victory. Tropical Storm – 9/2 (Win)

3.00: John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes: Moving onto the 3.00 now which is the Group 3 Gordon Stakes over a mile and four furlongs. This looks to revolve around Jan Brueghel for the all-conquering team of Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. He’s won both of his starts to date, the first being an impressive eight-length victory on debut in May before following up in Group 3 company at the Curragh last month. This step-up in trip looks sure to bring out more improvement in him and he looks like another highly progressive sort for his powerhouse yard. He should prove tough to beat. Jan Brueghel – Evs (Win) (NAP)

3.35: Qatar Nassau Stakes: The feature race of the afternoon once again comes up at 3.35 and this is the Group 1 Nassau Stakes for fillies & mares over a mile and two furlongs. I’m with Opera Singer here who’s another representative for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. She was a Group 1 winner as a two-year-old over a mile and has since placed in both the Irish Guineas as well as the Coronation Stakes most recently at Royal Ascot. She steps up in trip here which could see further improvement and she also gets the age allowance of eight pounds off Emily Upjohn. I think a bold showing is likely. Opera Singer – 2/1 (Win) (NB)

4.10: Jaeger-Lecoultre Nursery Handicap: It’s back into handicap company at 4.10 with a nursery handicap over seven furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Original Outlaw here who’s currently trading at a best price of 9/1 for Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch. He makes his handicap debut here having placed on his last two outings in novice company, with his most recent effort coming at Salisbury earlier this month where he stayed on well in the closing stages. He looks as though he has more to offer and if stepping up on that last run has every chance of playing a meaningful role in this. Original Outlaw – 9/1 (Each-Way)

4.45: Buccellati Handicap: My final selection of the day comes in the 4.45 which is more handicap action this time over five furlongs. I’m with Shagraan in this particular affair for Michael Appleby and Tom Marquand. He ran a fine race on his penultimate start when finishing fifth of twenty-eight in a competitive Royal Ascot handicap and was only a length and a half behind the winner at Windsor last time. He seems to appreciate lightning quick ground and if he turns up in the same form as his Ascot run he can have a big say. Shagraan – 8/1 (Each-Way)
