2.30 Yarmouth: Charles Lumsden/ATI Memorial Novice Stakes: My first selection of the day on Thursday comes from Yarmouth and in the 2.30 which is a novice event that’s contested over a distance of six furlongs. I like Tourist here for Hilal Kolbeissi and Luke Morris. He’s a nice race maiden but has ran up to a solid level in pretty much all nine of those outings, including last time when finishing second of eleven on handicap debut. He’s dropped back into maiden company here, and it would be disappointing if he didn’t finally bag that elusive victory. Tourist – 11/10 (Win) (NAP)
3.00 Yarmouth: Quinnbet Acca Bonus Handicap: I’m staying at Yarmouth for my second selection of the afternoon and this comes in the 3.00 which is Class 6 handicap company over a mile and six furlongs. I like Hill Spirit here for the Archie Watson and Luke Morris team. He posted his best effort to date on the flat last time out at Chelmsford when finishing second of thirteen. That was also over the trip he’ll face here and he gave the impression that it was very much up his street, if he turns up in the same kind of form he’s got every chance of going close again off the same mark. 3.25 Newbury: Country & Town House Handicap: It’s over to Newbury now for selection number three and this is a Class 5 handicap ridden over a mile. I’m strong on Global Asset here for William Haggas and Tom Marquand. He progressed notably on his last run which was his handicap debut, finishing a neck second of eleven at Windsor back in May. He’s been nudged up three pounds for his efforts that day but there is likely a considerable amount of progression yet to come from him. I think he has to be considered as a major player in this. 4.00 Newbury: Darley EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes: My fourth and final selection of the day also comes from Newbury and in the 4.00 which is a fillies novice event over a mile. This looks like a great opportunity for Clove Hitch to get her head in front for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy. She’s placed in both of her starts this term with her most recent effort being her best one to date when finishing half of a length second of twelve at Windsor last month. She sets the standard here and she should prove tough to beat. Clove Hitch – 11/8 (Win) (NB)
