Welcome aboard to this Midweek Preview where it’s Long Distance Hurdle Day at Newbury, and I’ve got three selections to share with you all. Make sure to gamble responsibly if you are punting.
1.50: Coral John Francome Novices’ Chase: My first selection of the afternoon comes in the 1:50 which is a Grade 2 novices chase over two miles and four furlongs. I think that this can go to Hermes Allen who heads the betting for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. Despite being disappointing at the Spring Festivals last season, he’s still got the best form on offer in this race and most notably won the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle here last term. Chasing has always been the plan with him and I think he’ll be very tough to beat. Hermes Allen – 6/4 (Win)
2.25: Coral Racing Club Handicap Chase: It’s handicap action up next at 2:25 and in this competitive-looking affair I’ve sided with Frero Banbou for the Betfair Chase winners Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. He’s dropped down to what looks like a very tempting mark, and he’ll likely build on what was an encouraging effort in the Grand Sefton on his seasonal reappearance at Aintree last month, where he finished third of ten. I think he’s a big player. Frero Banbou – 7/2 (Win)
3.35: Play Coral ‘Racing-Super-Series’ For Free Handicap Hurdle: My third and final selection comes in the 3:35 which is a handicap hurdle over three miles. I’ve sided with Ed Keeper here for the team of Sam Thomas and Sam Twiston-Davies. He’s an unexposed type who posted a very solid effort at Ascot in a competitive contest earlier this month, on what was his first outing of the campaign. He was just under a length behind the winner that day but a considerable margin clear of the remainder of the field, he could well be a bit better than his current mark and at the prices, he’s the one for me here. Ed Keeper – 6/1 (Each-Way)
