Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Group 2)

The Duchess Of Cambridge is a six furlong Group 2 event and is set to take place at 2.25 at Newmarket. My idea of the winner in this particular affairs comes in the form of Roger Varian’s DAAHYEH. She’s unbeaten in her two starts to date which were both over this distance and won the Albany at Royal Ascot on her latest outing. She sets a very solid standard here and is very much the one to beat.

The main rivals look to be fellow Royal Ascot winner Raffle Prize, winner of the Queen Mary Stakes and the mount of Frankie Dettori here for Mark Johnston. There’s also Saeed bin Suroor’s Final Song who was third in the Albany behind the market leader, she won on debut impressively at Ascot and looks a smart prospect herself and is the mount of Ryan Moore here.

WIN: DAAHYEH (6/4)

Falmouth Stakes (Group 1)

The Falmouth Stakes is the feature race on Day Two of the July Festival at Newmarket a Group 1 affair that’s contested over a mile. One Master heads affairs and sets a solid standard on her staying on third in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot the last day when she was just denied. She also won the Group 1 Prix de Foret at Longchamp last October. If turning up in the same form as either of those past efforts she’ll likely be a tough nut to crack here for James Doyle and William Haggas. I Can Fly is a smart filly for Aidan O’Brien she was third last time at Royal Ascot in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes and will likely give her running once moore under Ryan Moore here.

The one I’m taking a chance on in this competitive renewal is Roger Varian’s QABALA who’s the mount of Andrea Atzeni. She won the Nell Gwynn Stakes here in April and consequentley when off favourite for the 1000 Guineas where she ran a solid race and finished third. However she went on to contest the Irish 1000 Guineas after that at the Curragh and flopped finishing down the field in ninth. She’d almost certainly be favourite for this had she not ran there and if bouncing back to the form of her previous two efforts this term I think she’s got to be a big player here.

WIN: QABALA (7/2)
