The July Cup is this weekend’s main event over at Newmarket and I’ve had two bets in the six-furlong Group 1 affair of which I’ll go into detail on now. Advertise set’s the standard on the back of his win in the Commonwealth Cup for Martyn Meade and he’s probably the worthy favourite here under the guidance of Frankie Dettori again. He’s a general 3/1 chance here and I’ve tried to take him on with a couple of each way alternatives.
The first of these comes in the form of Aidan O’Brien’s FAIRYLAND who’s the mount of Seamie Heffernan here. She’s around the 8/1 mark for this and I think represents a bit of value for a horse that’s one of the most talented in the lineup. She won the Cheveley Park on the Rowley Mile here last season and has ran two solid races this term in defeat in both the 1000 Guineas and over five furlongs in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot. On both of those occasion horses suited by the respective trips got the better of her and I believe she will be more at home over six furlongs and can showcase what she’s all about.
My second selection here comes in an old favourite and that’s the 2016 winner of the race in Henry Candy’s LIMATO who has usual partner Harry Bentley on board. The seven year old was last seen when winning in Group 3 company here last month, he travelled much the best that day and put the race to bed pretty comfortably close home. He hasn’t really been able to land a blow at this level for a couple of years however at his current price of around 11/1 I think there’s every chance he could well use his experience and the ability that is still there to grab a place.
