Welcome to this Friday Preview where I’ll be focusing on Ascot and I’ll be kicking things off with the opener at 2:00 which is an Amateur Jockey’s Handicap that’s contested over seven furlongs. I’m staying loyal to Carnival Zain at 6/1 here for the team of Becky Smith and Micky Hammond. He’s in great form as of late, arriving here with form figures that read 1121 which include a dominate course and distance win in July. Despite going up in the weights, I think he’s every chance of going well again if he turns up in the same form. It’s the 2:35 next which is as Class 3 Handicap over two miles and this looks all about Aggagio for me at 7/4 for Gary Moore and Rhys Clutterbuck. He’s had a fine campaign this year on the level, winning three times including a victory on his most recent outing at Goodwood. His mark still looks manageable and I think he could well prove tough to beat here.
2.00: Carnival Zain – 6/1
2.35: Aggagio – 7/4
The 3:45 is where I’m turning the attention to next, which is a listed event that’s contested over a mile and six furlongs. I’m siding with Secret State here who’s currently trading at 6/4 for William Buick and Charlie Appleby. He’s had a very productive campaign this summer, winning four on the bounce which included two top handicaps, one here at Royal Ascot before following up at Goodwood the month after. He was last seen when finishing second in the Group 2 Great Voltigeur at York. This is very solid form and if his exploits haven’t yet taken their toll on him he should be bang there once again here. Concluding the preview for me will be the 4:20, which is a six-furlong handicap. I like Lethal Nymph here at 9/2 for John Fahy and Clive Cox who’s a course and distance winner. He bagged his first victory within handicap company here at the beginning of the month, and despite having to find a bit on the ratings against his rivals here, I think there could be more to come from him for a stable that specialises in sprinters.
