Monday 27th April 2026
I’ve got four selections from Bath on Monday, the first of which comes in the 2.30, and this is a Class 6 handicap that’s contested over a mile and two furlongs. I’ve come down on the Grace Harris-trained RATING here, who’s the mount of Rossa Ryan. She’s got a solid record at this track, with three-placed efforts to her name, including on her seasonal reappearance here earlier this month, where she finished third of eight behind Galaxy Wonder. She should naturally take a big step forward coming into her second start of the campaign here, and off a pound lower mark, she could get significantly closer.
Next up it’s the 3.00, and a Class 4 maiden for two-year-olds that’s set to be contested over five and a half furlongs. I think that Richard Hannon could hold the key to this particular contest with LEUCOTHEA, who’s to be ridden by Sean Levey. She makes plenty of appeal on paper, with a significant amount of speed in her pedigree, being by an old personal favourite of mine, Soldier’s Call, who was a classy sprinter in his day. The Hannon yard are no strangers to success with their two-year-olds, and this one will likely be ready to go. There’s every chance that she goes close on debut.
My third selection of the afternoon comes within the 3.30, and this is more five-furlong action, and a Class 4 handicap. This is competitive; however, I’m taking a chance on SAUCY JANE for Jack Morland and Rob Hornby. She’s been consistent as of late on the all-weather, without getting her head in front; however, a return to a fast surface on the turf could be what she’s after. Her sole success to date came on the turf on good-to-firm ground, and she’s been tried at higher levels than this. She’s got race fitness on her side, as well as being on a tumbling mark; I think that she could well make her presence felt.
The fourth and final pick for me on Monday comes within the 4.00 at Bath, and this is a Class 5 handicap over five furlongs. I’m quite strong on THE THAMES BOATMAN here for the team of Richard Hughes and Finley Marsh. He’s a multiple winner on the all-weather, and whilst he’s yet to get his head in front on the turf, he should be more than capable of a big performance now he’s dropped into Class 5 company. His most recent success in January came within Class 3 company at Lingfield, and if he repeats that level of form here, he should prove very tough to bet. He’s my best bet of the day.
