1.45 Plumpton: Chris Simpson From Plumpton To Pontefract Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle: We get things underway with the 1.45 which is s Class 4 conditional jockey’s handicap hurdle over three miles and a furlong. I’m with San Pedro here for Chris & Freddie Gordon. He won this race last year off just three pounds lower and whilst he’s found it tough as of late, he did win again over course and distance after that success off a three-pound higher mark than today’s. I think that a return to form could be on the cards at the scene of last year’s victory. San Pedro – 3/1 (Win)

2.15 Plumpton: BetGoodwin And Realistic Games Maiden Hurdle: The second race on the day is the 2.15 which is a Class 4 maiden hurdle that’s contested over two miles. I’m strong on the chances of Narragansett for Neil Mulholland and Conor O’Farrell. He was a useful sort on the flat and has shown a solid level of form so far over obstacles, finishing runner-up in a couple of juvenile hurdles. He sets the standard here and it would be disappointing should he not go one place better. Narragansett – 8/11 (Win) (NAP)

2.45 Plumpton: Howden Insurance Brokers Novices’ Handicap Chase: Next up is the 2.45 and this is a Class 4 novice handicap chase over two miles and three and a half furlongs. I’m with Walks Like The Man here for the team of Gary & Josh Moore and the mount of Harry Cobden. He progressed from his chase debut to finish fourth of ten at Warwick in December and given how he finished that day this drop down in trip could be what he needs. He’s also got form at the track having won a novice hurdle here and I think he’s a player. Walks Like The Man – 7/2 (Win)

3.15 Plumpton: BetGoodwin And Every Matrix Handicap Hurdle: The fourth race is the 3.15 and this is Class 4 handicap hurdle action over two miles and four and a half furlongs. I like Tellhimlisten here for Jennie Candlish and Ross Chapman. He was an impressive winner on his stable debut at Sedgefield a few weeks ago, winning by three and three-quarters of a length. He’s been raised by five pounds for that success but that may not be enough to stop him from following up, he could well go on a winning sequence. Tellhimlisten – 11/4 (Win)

3.45 Plumpton: BetGoodwin Sussex National Handicap Chase: We move onto the feature race of the afternoon and this is the Sussex National, a Class 3 handicap over three miles and four and a half furlongs. I’ve come on down on last year’s winner of the race in Dom Of Mary for David Bridgewater and Brendan Powell. He bolted up in this last year, winning by ten lengths, and whilst he’s struggled in his last two runs those efforts did come within the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival and the London National at Ascot, both extremely competitive Class 2 affairs. Coming back to this race has likely been the plan and he did run a very good race which came directly after last year’s success when finishing a length and three-quarters third in a competitive Sandown handicap, with that run coming off a mark just a pound lower than today’s. 4.15 Plumpton: BetGoodwin Master Trainer Chris Gordon Handicap Chase: My final selection comes within the 4.15 and this is a Class 4 handicap chase that’s contested over two miles and a furlong. I like Alto Alto in this who represents Chris and Freddie Gordon who takes off three pounds. He’s not shown much as of late, however, he’ll effectively contest this off a six-pound lower mark than when he won this race last year. He clearly likes it at this track and a bounce back to form would be no surprise here. Alto Alto – 5/2 (Win) (NB)
