12.50 Doncaster: Livescore Bet Cock O’The North EBF Maiden Stakes: We kick things off this Saturday with the 12.50 at Doncaster which is a Class 4 maiden over six furlongs. This looks like a good opportunity for So Darn Hot for the team of Kevin Philippart De Foy and Benoit De La Sayette. He’s progressed with each run to date, placing in his last two outings with his most recent effort coming at Yarmouth last month where he finished three-quarters of a length second of eight. It would be disappointing should he not post another bold effort here, as soft ground should also be fine. So Darn Hot – Evs (Win) (NAP)
12.55 Aintree: BoyleSports Best Odds Guaranteed Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase: It’s over to Aintree for my second selection and this is a Class 3 novice handicap chase over three miles and a furlong. I like Haiti Couleurs in this for Rebecca Curtis and Sean Bowen. He ran a fine race on his chase debut at Chepstow last month when finishing second of nine of and just two lengths behind the winner. He should build on that run here and go close for a yard who’s horses have been running well at this early stage of the season. Haiti Couleurs – 11/8 (Win) (NB)
1.30 Aintree: Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle: Next up for me is the 1.55 at Aintree which is a Class 2 handicap hurdle over three miles and half of a furlongs and this is a Pertemps qualifier. I’m with Harbour Lake here for the team of Alan King and Tom Cannon. He was knocking at the door in competitive handicaps back in Spring, placing at both Cheltenham and Haydock, and still remains on a mark which is a pound lower than his last winning one. The King yard are in form and connections love a winner around this track. Harbour Lake – 9/2 (Win)
2.05 Aintree: BoyleSports Choose Wisely Handicap Chase: Selection number four comes in the 2.05 at Aintree which is Class 3 handicap chase action over two miles. I think that Imperial Saint can go in again here for Phillip Hobbs & Johnson White, who’s the mount of Micheal Nolan. He made the perfect start to his chasing career over course and distance last month when getting the betting of Petit Tonnerre. He’s been nudged up four pounds for that success but there should be more to come from him and he also has race fitness on his side. Imperial Saint – 15/8 (Win)
2.23 Wincanton: Boodles Rising Stars Novices’ Chase: It’s up in grade now and over to Wincanton at 2.23 with the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novices Chase taking centre-stage over two miles and four furlongs. I like the chances of Insurrection for the team of Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. He was a dual winner over hurdles and also finished second in the Grade 2 Winter Novices Hurdle at Sandown back in December. He made his chasing debut on his seasonal reappearance at Chepstow last month when finishing second to Springwell Bay, and with the yard’s runners looking to need a run this term he should come on a great deal for that effort. I think he could be a nice prospect and comes into this with strong claims. Insurrection – 11/4 (Win)
2.40 Aintree: BoyleSports Grand Sefton Handicap Chase: My fifth and final selection of the day comes back at Aintree and in the 2.40 which is the Grand Sefton Handicap Chase, a Class 2 affair over two miles and five furlongs. I’m with Frero Banbou here for Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. It’s been a long time in between drinks for him now, however, he has run some solid races in defeat which include a third-placed effort in this race last year off a three-pound higher mark. The yard often starts firing in the winners throughout this time of year and had a competitive handicap winner at Ascot last weekend. If this particular runner gets a clear round he can have a big say here. Frero Banbou – 11/2 (Each-Way)
