1.50 Wetherby: bet365 Mares’ Hurdle: I’ve got four ITV selections on Saturday afternoon starting with the 1.50 at Wetherby which is a Listed Mares Hurdle over a distance of two miles. Luccia will be tough to beat here, however, I’m going to try and take her on with Sweet Fantasy for the team of James Owen and Harry Cobden. She’s two from two over obstacles, with her most recent success being the most notable when dismantling the smart Lily Du Berlais by seventeen lengths, with that rival going on to win her next starts. She’s obviously got a bit to find here, but if she continues to progress over hurdles she’s got every chance of at least giving the favourite a race. Sweet Fantasy – 7/1 (Each-Way)
2.05 Ascot: Byrne Group Handicap Chase: It’s over to Ascot for my second selection of the afternoon and the 2.05 which is a Premier Handicap Chase over two miles and a furlong. I’m going with Saint Segal here for Jane Williams an David Noonan. He posted a satisfactory display on his seasonal reapperance at Chepstow last month when fourth of ten, and he should improve significiantly as a result of that run. He ran well off three pounds higher than this when second to First Flow at Lingfield back in January, and I think he’s got a solid chance here. Saint Segal – 4/1 (Win)
2.22 Wetherby: bet365 Hurdle: My third selection comes within the 2.22 at Wetherby which is the Grade 2 bet365 Hurdle over three miles. I’m with Kateira here who represents the team of Dan and Harry Skelton. She’s a progressive mare who signed off her campaign last time out with victory in a Grade 3 handicap at Aintree back in April. It’s likely that this has been a target for her throughout the summer as connections have had success in the race previously, so she should be fit and ready to go. She should be going well. Kateira – 3/1 (Win) (NB)
2.58 Wetherby: bet365 Charlie Hall Chase: The fourth and final pick for me on the day comes in the feature at 2.58 which is the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase that’s ridden over a distance of three miles. I’m strong on the chances of Bravemansgame here for the team of Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. He struggled to recapture his form last season, and was second in this race despite travelling strongly into the straight. If he is going to get back into the winner’s enclosure this season though I struggle to envisage another opportunity as good as this, so it would be very disappointing should he get beat. Bravemansgame – Evs (Win) (NAP)
