1.35: Newmarket: Rossdales British EBF Maiden Stakes: It’s the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket over the next three days and we’ll have three full cards worth of selections starting off the 1.35 on Thursday which is a Class 4 maiden over a mile. I’m chancing Seacruiser here for Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan. He will have learned plenty from his debut run at Goodwood when finishing fifth and is the only horse to have racecourse experience here. He was fancied that day at Goodwood, going off the 5/2 favourite and if he naturally progresses he can get closer here. Seacruiser – 9/4 (Win)
2.10: Newmarket: Federation Of Bloodstock Agents Nursery Handicap: The second race of the day comes in the 2.10 which is a Class 4 nursery handicap over the mile. I like Olympus Point here for the team of Charlie Appleby and William Buick. He’s gone close in each of his three starts within novice company finishing second twice as well as third on the other occasion. He should continue to progress for a team that have a lot of success around here and he should be bang there at the business end of things in this. Olympus Point – 15/8 (Win) (NAP)
2.45: Newmarket: British Stallion Studs EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap: Next up it’s the Class 2 Premier Fillies’ Handicap over six furlongs. I’m siding with Executive Decision in this for Jamie & Saffie Osbourne. She arrives here on the back of three solid efforts this term within competitive handicaps and is now three pounds lower than her last winning mark. She’ll have no issue with any soft ground should it arrive as she’s versatile ground-wise and should be a lot fresher than most having only had the three starts this term. Executive Decision – 5/1 (Each-Way)
3.20: Newmarket: Tattersalls Stakes: We move up in grade at 3.20 with the Group 3 Tattersall Stakes set to be ridden over seven furlongs. I like Symbol of Honour here who’s another for Charlie Appleby and William Buick. He ran a fine race in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes at Doncaster earlier this month and looks to have considerable potential for his powerhouse connections. I think he sets a solid standard here and if he comes on again from the Doncaster run he can certainly give the warm Ballydoyle favourite a lot to think about. Symbol Of Honour – 10/3 (Win)
3.55: Newmarket: Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes: The fifth race of the afternoon is the 3.55 which is the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes that’s contested over two miles. I’m with Night Sparkle in this for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy. She’s a very admirable filly who has a string of placed-efforts to her name this season within graded company, and this was the case once more on her latest outing when she finishing second the Nakheel in the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster last month. This is an ease in grade for her and it could well be her well-deserved moment. Night Sparkle – 3/1 (Win)
4.30: Newmarket: Graham Budd Horseracing Memorabilia Handicap: We move back into handicap company at 4.30 with a Class 4 event set to be ridden over a mile and four furlongs. I’m siding with Fighter Command in this for John & Thady Gosden who’s the mount of Kieran Shoemark. He returned from a mid-season layoff in August when finishing second of six over course and distance and will contest this off the same mark as that day. He should come on for that run here and I can’t see any reason to why he won’t go well again, he’s also versatile ground-wise having won on good to soft previously. Fighter Command – 3/1 (Win) (NB)
5.05: Newmarket: Ultimate Provence Handicap: The concluding race of the day is the 5.05 which is a Class 4 handicap that’s ridden over a mile. I’m taking a chance on Hieronymus here for George Baker and Nicola Currie. He’s yet to win on turf after twenty-two attempts, with is obviously not ideal, however, he’ll contest this off what looks like a very tempting mark. He returned to form last time out at Kempton when finishing third of fourteen in a Class 2 handicap and if he’s ever going to close again on turf it would be off this kind of mark at this level. Hieronymus – 20/1 (Each-Way) (4 places)
