Friday Tips. (Cambridgeshire Meeting) (Day 2)

Friday 27th September 2024

Saturday Preview (12)

1.50 Newmarket: Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai British EBF Rosemary Stakes: Day Two of the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket gets underway with the Listed Rosemary Stakes that’s contested over a mile. I like Sirona here David Menuisier and Ryan Moore. She bounced back to form last time out when second in a Listed event in France and all of her best form has come on ground with cut in it. It’s almost certain that there’ll be soft in the description here and if she turns up in the same form as last time she has a leading chance. Sirona – 10/3 (Win)

2.25 Newmarket: Princess Royal Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Stakes: It’s Group 3 action up next with the Dubai Stakes over a mile and four furlongs. I think that this can go to Time Lock who currently heads the betting for Harry Charlton and Ryan Moore. She won this race last year in impressive style and has since been plying her trade in Group 1 and 2 company, which she’s found slightly too competitive. This represents an ease in grade that she’ll appreciate and she’s versatile ground-wise. Time Lock – 5/2 (Win) (NB)

3.00 Newmarket: Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Rockfel Stakes: The third race of the afternoon is the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes which is contested over seven furlongs. I’m with what’s seemingly the Ballydoye second-string here in Bubbling for Aidan O’Brien and Sean Levey. She was an impressive winner of her debut on her penultimate start before finishing a length third behind the progressive Chantez in Listed company at Leopardstown last time out. Her five-length maiden success came on soft ground and I think she looks a progressive sort for her top connections. Bubbling – 4/1 (Win)

3.35 Newmarket: Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Joel Stakes: It’s more Group 2 action now with the Joel Stakes that’s ridden over a mile. I like Poker Face in this for the team of Simon & Ed Crisford who’s the mount of James Doyle. He returned from a mid-season break after a poor run at Royal Ascot with a couple of encouraging efforts in Group 2 company at Goodwood and Leopardstown, finishing second and fourth respectively. He’s a very useful sort on his day and the majority of his best form has come on ground with cut in it. Poker Face – 9/2 (Win)

4.10 Newmarket: Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai British EBF “Confined” Maiden Stakes: It’s into maiden company next with the 4.10 which is a a Class 4 event over seven furlongs. This looks like a good opportunity for Seaplane to get his head in front for the team of Paul & Olive Cole. He’s the mount of Rossa Ryan here and comes into the race on the back of two second-placed efforts, the most recent coming earlier this month when being denied by a neck in a Class 3 event. Both runs have come on soft ground and I think he sets the standard here. Seaplane – 7/2 (Win) (NAP)

4.45 Newmarket: Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Godolphin Stakes: The penultimate race of the day is the 4.45 which is the Listed Godolphin Stakes over a mile and four furlongs. I’m with Military Academy here for John & Thady Gosden and Kieran Shoemark. The yard form is a bit of a concern, however, I think they have a potentially smart sort on their hands here. He beat The Reverend on debut who has since gone on to win a Heritage Handicap and most recently bolted up at Salisbury by six furlongs. Both efforts have come on soft ground and if he continues to progress he could be one for the top level. Military Academy – 7/4 (Win)

5.20 Newmarket: Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Handicap: Signing us off for the day will be the 5.20 which is a Class 3 handicap over a mile and a furlongs. I’m taking a chance on one at a big price here in First Officer for Jane Chapple-Hyam and Sorin Moldoveanu who takes off seven pounds. He’s not been beaten far in handicaps as of late and has dropped down to a mark that is just two pounds higher than his last winning one, with that success coming on good to soft ground at the start of the season. That last victory also came under today’s rider and if he gets a bit of luck in the run he can feature at a nice price. First Officer – 14/1 (Each-Way) (4 places)
