Saturday Preview (5)

3.03 Pontefract: Ben And Mary Hibbert Memorial Handicap: My first selection of the day on Thursday comes in the 3.03 at Pontefract which is a Class 4 handicap over a mile and four furlongs. I’m with Wootton’s Jewel here for the team of Michael Bell and David Egan. He won at Windsor over ten furlongs earlier in the season and was a staying on third last time out at Newbury last month,  giving the impression that this step up in trip could unlock further improvement from him. It would be disappointing should there not be further progression and he should be playing a meaningful role in this. Wootton’s Jewel – 4/1 (Win)

3.33 Pontefract: Always Trying Racing Syndicate Handicap: Next up for me is the 3.33 at Pontefract which is Class 6 handicap action over a distance of a mile and two furlongs. I like Masque Of Anarchy here who represents Craid Lidster and Harrison Shaw. He’s run well on his last two outings, placing in each start, and has seemingly been handed an opportunity by the handicapper as his mark remains unaltered from his latest start, albeit he did have a seven-pound claimer on last time. His last victory came over course and distance last year off a nine-pound higher mark and I think he can make his presence felt in this. Masque Of Anarchy – 4/1 (Win) (NAP)

3.42 Ayr: Livescore Bet Kilkerran Handicap: I’ve got one selection from Ayr on the day and that comes in the 3.42 which is the Class 2 Kilkerran Handicap over a mile and two furlongs. This looks like a good opportunity for Oviedo to return to form for Ed Bethell and Callum Rodriguez. He’s been plying his trade in very competitive company, and his eleventh-placed effort at York last time wasn’t a bad effort as he shaped with promise. This represents an easier assignment for him and it would be disappointing should he not get a lot closer at the business end of things. Oviedo – 5/1 (Each-Way)

4.05 Pontefract: Go Racing In Yorkshire Handicap: My final selection of the afternoon comes in the 4.05 at Pontefract which is a Class 5 handicap over two miles and a furlong. I think that this can go to the Sir Mark Prescott trained Judgementofsolomon who’s the mount of a Luke Morris. He’s well in here following a second-placed effort at Chester at the weekend over two miles and there is likely significant progression still to come from him. That run came on heavy ground so he’ll have to handle the likely fast surface here, but he has won on the all-weather earlier in the campaign. He should post a bold bid.  Judgementofsolomon – 7/4 (Win) (NB)
