Coral Eclipse Day Preview

Feature Meetings: Sandown, Haydock

1.50 Sandown: Coral Charge: We kick things off for this week’s Saturday Preview with the Group 3 Coral Charge over five furlongs. I’m with Twilight Calls here for the team of Henry Candy and Ryan Moore. He’s an admirable campaigner who’s very smart on his day and has been in solid form this season, finishing fourth and three-quarters of a length behind the winner on seasonal reappearance at Newmarket in a Group before finishing a fine sixth of seventeen in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot last month. A repeat of that latest run could well be enough to win this, and if he gets some luck in the run he could go close. Twilight Calls – 4/1 (Win) (NAP)

2.25 Sandown: Coral Challenge: Next up is the 2.25 which is the Coral Challenge, a Class 2 handicap that is contested over a mile. I’m going with Classic here who’s currently a 6/1 chance for Richard Hannon and Pat Dobbs. He put a disappointing run on seasonal reappearance behind him when finishing second of fifteen here behind Two Tempting last month in a competitive handicap, and he’s got every chance of reversing the form with that rival here. He’s got good form at this track and looks a solid option. Classic – 6/1 (Each-Way)

2.40 Haydock: bet365 Lancashire Oaks: We head over to Haydock for my third selection of the day which is the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks over a mile and four furlongs. I’ve sided with Queen Of The Pride here for John & Thady Gosden who’s the mount of Oisin Murphy. She’s a highly progressive filly by Running Lion and Simple Verse who took her form to the next level when taking a Group 3 here last month. She also looks versatile ground-wise, having finished second at Goodwood on a soft surface on her seasonal reappearance. The should be a lot more to come and if she continues her progression she should put in a bold bid here. Queen Of The Pride – 4/1 (Win) (NB)

3.00 Sandown: Coral Distaff: My penultimate selection of the afternoon comes back at Sandown and in the 3.00 which is the Listed Coral Distaff for fillies over the mile. I think that Regal Jubilee could be the one to be with here who’s another for John & Thady Gosden and this time the mount of Kieran Shoemark. She was outclassed in the Guineas but has posted two fine efforts either side of that run within Group 3 and Listed company, finishing a close second in each of them. She also has a Listed success to her name from last season and is certainly proven at this sort of level. If she turns up in the same form as her Goodwood run in May, she should be bang there. Regal Jubilee – 5/1 (Each-Way)

3.35 Sandown: Coral-Eclipse: The feature of the day comes up at 3.35 which is the Grade 1 Coral-Eclipse that’s contested over a mile and two furlongs. City Of Troy will be incredibly tough to beat here if he turns up in the same kind of form as he did when winning the Derby last time out. I’ve tried to find an each-way angle though as there are eight runners, and I’ve sided with Ghostwriter for Clive Cox and Richard Kingscote. He was fourth in the Guineas in-front of City Of Troy and was also fourth in the French Derby last time out, when not getting a clear run. He’s clearly very talented and if getting a bit more luck on that occasion can certainly run a big race. If the favourite doesn’t fire again, he could well pick up the pieces. Ghostwriter – 9/1 (Each-Way)
