Newmarket Craven Meeting Preview (Tuesday)

.50: It’s Never Ordinary At bet365 Handicap: I’ll be kicking things off on Tuesday at Newmarket with the 1.50 which is a Class 3 handicap that’s ridden over five furlongs. I’m with Dream Composer here for the team of James Evans and Dougie Costello. He won this race last year and comes into this year’s contest off the back of a very solid reappearance effort at Doncaster last month when finishing fifth of fourteen in a competitive handicap. He’s now three pounds below his last winning mark and a big run would be no surprise here at a course he clearly enjoys. Dream Composer – 6/1 (Each-Way) (NB)

.20: JRA Handicap: Next up is the 2.20 which is a Class 4 handicap that’s set to be contested over a distance of a mile. This is another competitive affair, however, I’ve come down on The Camden Colt for Richard Hannon and Sean Levey. He’s contested some hot contests since winning within novice company but appeared to find his level within handicap company when he was last seen, finishing a head second over course and distance back in September, which he’s got every chance of building on. The handicapper hasn’t been overly kind but there could be more to come from him and he’s clearly a useful colt The Camden Colt – 25/1 (Each-Way)

.30: bet365 EBF Conditions Stakes: My third selection of the afternoon comes in the 3.30 which is a conditions event over seven furlongs. I think that this looks like a good opportunity for Boiling Point to add another victory to his tell for the team of Roger Varian and James Doyle. He won a novice event by five lengths on his penultimate outing back in September and signed off his campaign with an impressive second-placed effort in the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes over course and distance. He’s got the best form on offer here and he’s the one they all have to beat. Boiling Point – 6/5 (Win) (NAP)

.05: Alex Scott Maiden Stakes: The 4.05 is where we turn our attention to next and this is maiden action also over seven furlongs. I’m with the Dominic Ffrench Davis trained Manhattan Mirage here who’s the mount of David Egan. He’s gone close in all three of his starts to date so far by placing in each outing with his most recent effort being his best to date when finishing a head second at Doncaster last month. He’s got the experience and form that should stand him in very good stead here and it would be disappointing should he not go close once again on his fourth attempt. Manhattan Mirage – 8/1 (Each-Way)

.40: Bet Boost At bet365 Handicap: My fifth and final selection of the afternoon comes in the 4.40 which is Class 4 handicap action over seven furlongs. I like Eye Of Dubai here for the team of John & Sean Quinn and the mount of Jason Hart. He opened his account in impressive style last time out at Catterick by just over four lengths, following a couple of neck seconds last term. He looks to be a horse who could prove to be a bit better than his opening handicap mark and he can go well again here. Eye Of Dubai – 9/2 (Win)
