Kempton Coral Trophy Day
1.15: Coral Racing Club Handicap Hurdle: Kicking things off for this week’s Saturday Preview at Kempton Park will be the 1.15 which is a handicap hurdle over two miles and five furlongs. I’m siding with Largy Poet here who’s currently a 6/1 chance for the team of Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. He’s having his handicap debut here and comes into the race with an unexposed profile and potentially plenty more progression in the tank. He’s progressed with each run this season culminating with a twelve-length success in maiden company at Exeter last time. If he takes another step up here he could prove to be a big player. Largy Poet – 6/1 (Each-Way)
1.50: Coral Adonis Juvenile Hurdle: Next up is the 1.50 which is the Adonis Juvenile Hurdle, a Grade 2 affair that’s ridden over two miles. I’m with another one for the Ditcheat team of Nicholls and Cobden here with Kalif Du Berlais who currently heads the betting for the powerhouse team. He’s won both of his starts to date, with his most recent success coming over course and distance here in January on his stable debut, where he impressively won by seven and a half lengths. Most of the field here have significant potential but he could well have star quality about him. Kalif Du Berlais – 10/11 (Win) (NAP)
2.27: Coral Pendil Novices’ Chase: The third race of the afternoon and my third punt of the afternoon comes up at 2.27 which is the Pendil Novices Chase over two miles and four and a half furlongs. I’m with Arclight here who’s currently trading at a best price of 5/1 for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville. She’s gone from strength to strength so far this season, coming into the race having won all three outings with her most recent success coming when beating Marsh Wren in Listed company at Wincanton in December, with that rival since coming out and boosting the form. She’s got a bit to find on ratings with some of them here but she seems to be on a very upward trajectory. Arclight – 5/1 (Win)
3.00: Coral Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle: It’s more graded action at 3.00 with the Grade 2 Dovecote Novices Hurdle taking centre-stage over two miles. I think this is all about Lump Sum who currently heads the betting for the team of Sam Thomas and Sam Twiston-Davies. He looks like a highly progressive sort, winning his first two starts of the campaign before giving Supreme hope Jeriko Du Reponent a real race at Doncaster within Grade 2 company last time out, going down by just over a length on that occasion. If he turns up in the same kind of form here he’ll be a force to be reckoned with. Lump Sum – 15/8 (Win)
3.37: Coral Trophy Handicap Chase: My fifth and final selection of the day comes in the feature which is the Coral Trophy, a Premier Handicap that’s ridden over three miles. I think that this year’s renewal of the race can go to Flegmatik who represents Dan & Harry Skelton. He was a neck second in the race last year off a five-pound lower mark, however, he comes into the race this time around in much better form having placed in two competitive handicaps before winning here in January by two-lengths. If he gets a clear round I think that he can post a very serious bid. Flegmatik – 6/1 (Each-Way)
