3.00: “Syki’s 60th” David Sykes 60th Birthday Handicap Chase: My first punt of the week comes in the 3.00 at Carlisle which is a handicap chase over two miles and four furlongs. I like the chances of Taste The Fear here for Dr Richard Newland, Jamie Insole, and Sam Twiston-Davies. He’s now dropped back down to his last winning mark and he’s gone well on testing ground before, if getting some luck in the run he can go close here. Taste The Fear – 5/1 (Win)
4.00: Book Your Raceday Hospitality Now Handicap Chase: The 4.00 is where I’m turning my attention to next which is another handicap chase that this time is ridden over a distance of three miles and a furlong and a half. I’m with Shighness who’s currently an 11/4 chance in the betting for Micky Hammond and Brian Hughes. She arrives having won in smart style last time out at Catterick by four lengths and looks a progressive mare. I’ll chance her to continue said progression in this assignment. Shighness – 11/4 (Win)
4.35: Book Your Conference And Events Now Handicap Hurdle: My third and final selection of the afternoon comes in the 4.35 which is a handicap hurdle over two miles and three and a half furlongs. I think that this is all about Booster Bob who currently heads the betting for Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen. He comes in the race on the back of a hattrick of wins, with the most recent success coming in a Listed novice event at Sandown back in December. He could well prove to be a bit better than his opening mark here in his first handicap outing, and it would be disappointing should he not post a serious effort. Booster Bob – 8/11 (Win) (NAP)
