Welcome aboard to this Sunday Preview where the focus is on the Winter Million meeting which is set to take place at Lingfield Park. I’ll have several selections throughout the afternoon on what is a competitive card of racing. Make sure to gamble responsibly if you are having a bet.
12.40: Weatherbys Digital Solutions Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle: My first selection of the afternoon comes in the 12.40 which is a mares novice hurdle over two miles. I’m siding with Pawapuri here for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville. She’s looked like a very useful recruit from the flat so far, having won both of her first two starts over hurdles including a two-length success within listed company last time out. It’s likely she’s still progressing and could put in a very bold in this. Pawapuri – 11/4 (Win)
1.15: Download The Racing App Now Lightning Novices’ Chase: Next up it’s the 1.15 which is a Grade 2 novice chase that is also contested over two miles. I’ve gone with Djelo here for the team of Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. He’s had a fantastic start to this campaign, winning all three starts to date with his most recent success coming at Ascot last month when winning a Grade 2 affair impressively by six lengths. If he turns up in the same kind of form here he’ll be tough to beat. Djelo – 7/2 (Win)
1.50: Download The Racing App Now Godstone Handicap Chase: We move onto the 1.50 now which is handicap chase action again over a distance of two miles. I’m with Frero Banbou here who’s another for Venetia Williams an Charlie Deutsch, as well as the same owners as my previous pick. He’s a course and distance winner having won at this meeting a couple of years ago and ran a very solid race in defeat at Cheltenham when second in a Premier Handicap. He’s actually been dropped in the weights since then and is only two pounds than when winning here back in 2022. Frero Banbou – 11/2 (Each-Way)
2.25: Weatherbys Hamilton Handicap Hurdle: We go back over the smaller obstacles at 2.25 with a handicap hurdle over two miles and seven furlongs. I think that this can go to Nurse Susan for the team of Dan & Harry Skelton. She was last seen when winning a competitive mares handicap at Cheltenham back in December and I think she still has the potential to be a bit better than her new revised mark. This requires a career best from here, but she’s always been well thought of by connections and could be up for the challenge. Nurse Susan – 9/2F (Win)
3.35: Fitzdares Surrey National Handicap Chase: My fifth and final punt of the day comes in the 3.35 which is the Surrey National that’s contested over three miles and five furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Regal Blue here who’s currently a 6/1 chance in the betting for the team of Jonjo O’Neil and Nick Schofield. He’s an unexposed type who will have to prove he can stay this marathon distance, however, I liked the way he stayed on powerfully up the long Haydock straight last time out on heavy ground. If he does handle the trip, I think he can have a massive say. Regal Blue – 6/1JF (Each-Way)
