Welcome aboard to this week’s Saturday Preview which comes from Sandown and Aintree where it’s Tingle Creek and Becher Chase Day, I’ve got several selections throughout the afternoon so make sure to gamble responsibly if you are having a bet.
12.40 Sandown: Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle: I’m kicking things off with the 12.40 which is a Pertemps Series handicap hurdle that is ridden over two miles and seven and a half furlong. I’m taking a chance on Brinkley here David Pipe and Jack Tudor, he arrives here having posted his best effort for a while on his most recent outing which came at Uttoxeter last month where he finished half a length second. His mark remains unchanged and he’s every chance of going close again. Brinkley – 7/1 (Each-Way)
12.55 Aintree: Boylesports Houghton Mares’ Chase: We go over to Aintree now for their 12.55 which is a Listed Mares Chase over two miles and four furlongs. I’ve sided with Pink Legend here who currently heads the betting for Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. She won two listed events last term as well as placing in the Mares Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, her yard is in fine form at present and she also goes well fresh. She’s the one for me. Pink Legend – 6/4 (Win)
1.30 Aintree: Boylesports Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase: Staying at Aintree for the 1.30 and this is a competitive handicap chase over two miles and four furlongs. I’ve gone with War Lord here for Joe Tizzard and Harry Cobden, he’s always been a horse with plenty of ability and posted a solid effort on seasonal reappearance when finishing third in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter last month. If he builds on that run here he could go very close off his current mark. War Lord – 9/2 (Win)
1.50 Sandown: Betfair Henry VIII Novices’ Chase: I’m turning my attention to the 1.50 now which is the Grade 2 Henry VIII Novices Chase over a mile and seven and a half furlongs. I think that this can go to JPR One for the team of Joe Tizzard and Brendan Powell. He looked to have the Grade 2 Arkle Trial wrapped up at Cheltenham last time out before falling at the final flight, and I think he’s the best horse in this particular affair. If he gets a clear round this time he should be bang there. JPR One – 7/4 (Win)
2.05 Aintree: Boylesports Becher Handicap Chase: The Becher Chase takes centre-stage at 2.05 which is a Premier Handicap over three miles and two furlongs. I’ve taken a chance on Undersupervision here who’s currently a 9/1 chance for Nigel & Sam Twiston-Davies. He’s a tricky horse to get right, however, I think he’ll relish the sort of test he’ll face here. He ran a solid race last time out at Cheltenham and if he gets some luck around here he could post a big effort. Undersupervision – 9/1 (Each-Way)
2.25 Sandown: Rachael Blackmore Serial Winners Fund Handicap Hurdle: I move onto the 2:25 now which is a handicap hurdle that is set to be ridden over two miles. I’m siding with Bucksy Des Epeires here who’s currently trading at a best price of 13/2 for Venetia Williams and Ned Fox who takes off five pounds. He’s a French recruit who won on his stable debut in a maiden hurdle at Lingfield last month, beating a well-fancied rival with the two of them pulling well clear of the rest of the field. I think he could prove to be a bit better than his opening handicap mark, and has every chance of taking advantage of carrying a low weight around here. Bucksy Des Epeires – 13/2 (Each-Way)
3.15 Aintree: Boylesports Extra Place Races Handicap Hurdle: The final pick from Aintree of the day comes in the 3.15 which is a handicap hurdle over two miles and four furlongs. I’m with the progressive Bashers Reflection here for the team of Ben Case and Harry Banister. He’s progressed in both starts so far this term, winning on his most recent start at Wetherby last month where he got the better of the smart Molly Ollys Wishes by just short of five lengths. He’s certainly on the upgrade and there could well be more to come. Bashers Reflection – 11/2 (Each-Way)
3.35 Sandown: Betfair Exchange London National Handicap Chase: My final selection of the afternoon comes in the 3:35 which is the London National, a handicap chase that is ridden over three miles and four and a half furlongs. I think Fontaine Collognes could be the one to be with here for Venetia Williams and Ned Fox who takes off five pounds. She’ll contest this off four pounds lower than her last winning mark when you take her rider’s claim into consideration, and I don’t think the distance or the going will be an issue at all for her. Fontaine Collognes – 10/3 (Win)
