Sunday 25th October 2020
Welcome to this Sunday Preview where I’ll be previewing some of the races on Old Roan day at Aintree as we welcome racing back to the Merseyside track for the first time in what seems like an age. I’ll also have some picks from other meetings throughout the day.
Enjoy!

The first race on the card is the 12:47 which is a Maiden Hurdle over two miles and four furlongs. Danny Kirwan and Torn And Frayed will be popular here and probably rightly so as they are the horses with the form in the book, however, I’ve taken them on here with a very interesting newcomer in Colin Tizzard’s KILLER KANE who’s to be ridden by Robbie Power. He was a three length winner of an Irish Point to Point when last seen in March and was sold for £300,000 after. The yard have a solid track record of picking up smart recruits from that sphere and if he is above ordinary he could well take this. Another who’s merits consideration here is Butte Montana for Paddy Brennan and Fergal O’Brien.
12:47 Result:
1st: Real Stone (50/1)
2nd: Killer Kane (7/2)
Next up is the Veteran’s Chase at 1:22 which is contested over three miles and a furlong. I’ve taken a chance on two here the first of these coming in the form of ONE STYLE for Venetia Williams and Charlie Deutsch. He was fading when falling in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham back in March, but had previously completed a five-timer and if arriving here fit he’s every chance of giving a bold showing out in front. The other one for me here is MINELLACELEBRATION for Katy Price and Ben Poste. He was last seen when winning the Listed Summer Cup at Uttoxeter back in July and this course and distance winner has a good record when fresh.
1:22 Result:
1st: Minellacelebration (15/2)
2nd: Pobbles Bay (14/1)
3rd: Sametegal (7/2)
The feature of the day comes up at 1:57 which is the Old Roan Handicap Chase, a Grade 2 contest over two miles and four furlongs. I think this can go to ITCHY FEET for Olly Murphy and Aidan Coleman, he was a Grade 1 Novice Chase winner last season and was unlucky when unseating his rider at Cheltenham back in March in the Marsh Novices’ Chase which was won by Samcro. If progressing from last season he’s got a high chance of being considerably better than this mark. There’s a whole host of them that could be considered as dangers, Oldgrangewood knows this course well as does Vision Des Flos. Both have attracted support in the betting.
1:57 Result:
1st: Nuts Well (18/1)
2nd: Clondaw Castle (14/1)
3rd: Itchy Feet (16/5)
The final race I’ll be looking at from Aintree is the 2:32 which is a Novices’ Handicap Chase over three miles and a furlong. I’ve sided with the Dan Skelton trained DIOMEDE DES MOTTES here who’s to be ridden by Harry. He arrives here with a run under his belt already over the bigger obstacles having finished fourth at Banger last month, if putting that experience to use and progressing he’s every chance of playing a meaningful part here. The main danger looks to come from Ofalltheginjoints for Colin Tizzard and Robbie Power.
2:32 Result:
1st: Acey Milan (5/1)
2nd: Smackwater Jack (15/2)
3rd: Ofalltheginjoints (11/2)
