Saturday Preview. (Betfair Chase Day)

Saturday 25th November 2023

Welcome aboard to this week’s Saturday Preview where it’s Betfair Chase Day at Haydock as well as a top-drawer card of action at Ascot. I’ll have several selections throughout the day at both meetings, so, as ever, make sure to gamble responsibly if you are punting.

1.15 Haydock: Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange Handicap Hurdle: My first punt of the day on Saturday comes from Haydock and it’s a handicap hurdle over two miles and three furlongs. I’ve taken a chance on Park Annonciade here who’s currently a 6/1 chance in the betting, he’s a largely consistent sort who was last seen winning at Ayr earlier this month. He got a five-pound rise for that success, however, Ben Bromely’s claim will take that off again here, therefore, I think he’s got a very solid chance. Park Annonciade – 6/1 (Each-Way)

1.30 Ascot: Nirvana Spa 1965 Chase: It’s over to Ascot now for the 1.30 which is Grade 2 action over two miles and five furlongs in the 1965 Chase. I find it hard to get away from Shishkin here, who currently heads the betting for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville. His main rival looks to be Pic D’Orhy here, and he got the better of that rival at this track last season in the Ascot Chase. The distance was fifteen lengths that day, and despite the fact that the Henderson charge might not be fully wound up yet, that’s still a big gap to bridge. I think he’ll prove to be too strong once again here. Shishkin – 4/6 (Win)

2.05 Ascot: Coral Hurdle: We stay at Ascot now for the 2:05 which is the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle over two miles and three and a half furlongs. I’ve sided with another Seven Barrows runner here in Theatre Glory who’s currently a best price of 11/4. She developed into a smart mare over the last couple of campaigns, winning a couple of listed mares events and I think a race like this is well within her sights as it’s far from the strongest of Grade 2s. She’s gone well fresh in the past, and a big run could well be on the cards. Theatre Glory – 11/4 (Win)

2.20 Haydock: Betfair “Serial Winners” Stayers’ Handicap Hurdle: My fourth selection of the afternoon is back at Haydock for the stayer’s handicap hurdle over three miles and half of a furlong. I like Crambo here for Fergal O’Brien and Connor Brace, he progressed well last term and claimed Grade 3 honours, before returning to the track with an impressive victory in a competitive Aintree handicap last month. There could well be more to come from him and he’s got to be considered a massive player here. Crambo – 3/1 (Win)

3.00 Haydock: Betfair Chase: The big one at Haydock comes up at 3.00 which is the Grade 1 Betfair Chase that’s contested over three miles and one and a half furlongs. It’s a race that has seen some of the best chasers to ever grace the do battle and I think this year’s renewal can be won by another fine one in Bravemansgame. He was surprisingly beaten on seasonal reappearance at Wetherby last time, but that should have blown the cobwebs away and he should be much more tuned up for this, a race in which his yard has had a lot of success over the years. If he’s anywhere near his best last year’s King George winner should be winning. Bravemansgame – 8/11 (Win)
