Welcome aboard to my preview for the November Meeting which is set to take place at Cheltenham on Friday and runs through until Sunday. I’ll have a preview for each day of the meeting sharing my thoughts and opinions on the action, make sure to gamble responsibly if you are punting on any of my selections.
1.10: mallardjewellers.com Maiden Hurdle: The action gets underway at 1:10 with a maiden hurdle over two miles and half of a furlong, and I like the chances of Tellherthename who represents Ben Pauling and Kielan Woods. He’s a recruit from the pointing sphere and made a very encouraging start to life under rules when finishing a nose second in a competitive novice hurdle at Ascot last month. If he builds on that here he should be having a big say. Tellherthename – 2/1 (Win)
1.45: cavani.co.uk Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase: Next up it’s the 1:45 which is a handicap chase for novices over two miles and four furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Es Perfecto here for Alan King and Brendan Powell who’s currently trading at the 9/1 mark. He’s a lightly raced sort but does have some solid form in novice hurdles and was last seen finishing third at Uttoxeter back in the spring. He’s gone well fresh in the past and he could well be a bit better than his current mark. Es Perfecto – 9/1 (Each-Way)
2.20: Jewson Handicap Chase: My third selection of the afternoon comes in the 2:20 which is a handicap chase that’s set to be ridden over three miles and three and a half furlongs. I’ve sided with Guetapan Collognes here for Charlie Longsdon and Richie McLernon. He arrives here in good form having won well at Carlisle on his seasonal reappearance, and I think he could well have more progression in him. He’s got every chance of posting another big effort. Guetapan Collognes – 4/1 (Win)
2.55: Shloer Chase It’s Graded action next at 2:55 with the Shloer Chase taking centre-stage over two miles. I think that this is all about Jonbon who currently heads the better for Nico de Boinville and Nicky Henderson. He was second in the Arkle at The Festival here last year and signed off his season with back-to-back Grade 1 victories at Sandown and Aintree. It’s very likely that there’s a lot more to come from him at the top level, and he should take a lot of beating here. Jonbon – 8/13 (Win)
3.30: Unibet Greatwood Handicap Hurdle: The feature event of the day is the Greatwood Hurdle and it’s a Premier Handicap that is ridden over two miles and half of a furlong. I’ve tried my hand with two selections here, the first of which is Luccia who’s another Seven Barrows runner, this time the mount of James Bowen. She’s a very highly regarded sort and returned to the track at Wetherby earlier in the month and posted a solid enough effort when finishing second. She should come on considerably from that run and I think she’s a big player here at a nice price. My other pick is Sonigino for Paul Nicholls, he’s ultra-consistent in competitive races and ran a fine race on his first outing of the campaign at Chepstow last month when finishing third in the Silver Trophy. He also has Freddie Gingell’s five-pound claim here which puts him on quite an attractive mark. Luccia 11/1 (Each-Way) & Sonigino 16/1 (Each-Way)
