Welcome aboard to this Sunday Preview where I’ll be focusing my attention on Aintree as it’s Old Roan Chase Day. I’ve got three selections to share with you all so if you are punting, make sure to do so in a responsible manner.
1.25: Jewson Vieux Lion Rouge Veterans’ Handicap Chase: My first selection of the day comes in the 1:25 which is a veterans event over three miles and a furlong. I’m siding with Celebre D’Allen here who’s currently trading at a best price of 15/2. He’s actually quite lightly raced for his age, and was last seen finishing eighth here in the Topham last spring. He’s down to a very tempting mark and will have no issues with the distance, I think he could go well. Celebre D’Allen – 7/2 (Win)
2.00: Old Roan Limited Handicap Chase: The feature race of the afternoon comes up at 2:00 and that comes in the form of the Old Roan Handicap Chase. In this year’s renewal of the race I’m going to side with Hitman for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden, he was narrowly denied in the race by a head last year and went onto place in two graded races after, with the most notable effort coming when he finished third in the Ryanair at Cheltenham. That’s possibly the best form on offer here, and if he runs to a similar level he’ll be tough to beat. Hitman – 7/2 (Win)
3.10: Jewson Handicap Hurdle: My third and final selection of the afternoon comes in the 3.10 which is a handicap hurdle that is contested over two miles and four furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Lac De Constance here for the Skelton team who’s currently a 4/1 chance. He goes well fresh and is only six pounds higher than when he hacked up by twenty lengths on his seasonal reappearance at Hexham last season. This is also a slight ease in grade for him on recent assignments, so I’ll side with him to bounce back to form. Lac De Constance – 11/1 (Each-Way)
