A big welcome to this blog where I’ll be sharing with you my selections for this year’s renewal of the King George, which is set to take place at 2.30 at Kempton Park on boxing day. The race is widely seen as the showpiece event over the Christmas period, and it’s a Grade 1 event which is contested over a distance of three miles.
Bravemansgame and L’Homme Presse are currently battling it out at the top of the market for favoritism, and rightfully so on their most recent exploits. I think Bravemansgame will probably win the race, but at a current best price of 2/1, he’s not a backable price for me at this stage. There are also some pretty big ground concerns for L’Homme Presse, so his participation isn’t fully guaranteed.Ā
I’ve taken a chance on one at a much larger price here, as somewhat of an each-way alternative to the current market leaders. That comes in the form of Eldorado Allen at 20/1 who represents Joe Tizzard, he seems like he’s been around for a very long time, however, remarkably, he’s still only an eight-year-old. He’s a very consistent performer at a high level, and took his form to a new level last season when winning the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter, as well as the Denman Chase at Newbury. This term he returned to action with a fine second-placed effort when just under four lengths behind Bravemansgame in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby, and his most recent run came when finishing a distant second behind Protektorat in the Betfair Chase at Haydock. He’s likely to find a couple too good here, as he so often does, however, if some of the big guns don’t fine or don’t even show up, I think he’s one of the best 20/1 shots you’ll find.
