Welcome aboard to this Monday blog where I’ve got three tips from Kempton, starting with the 1:25 which is a Novices’ Handicap Chase that’s contested over two miles and four and a half furlongs. I like the chances of Blackcauseway here at 5/2 for Twiston-Davies team. He didn’t manage to get his head in-front when contesting maiden hurdles, however, more is expected from this winning pointer now he’s over the larger obstacles. This is a competitive affair, however, he gets a few pounds off most of his rivals and he could well prove a bit better than his opening mark.

The next race I’ll be punting in is the 2:35 which is a Class 3 Handicap Chase that’s ridden over a distance of two miles and two furlongs. I’m siding with Haddex Des Obeaux here at 7/2 for the team of Jamie and Gary Moore. He’s got some solid form over hurdles to his name, most notably when getting the better of Champagne Court by three lengths at Fontwell in October of last year. He returned to the track at Newton Abbott last month after a year-long lay-off, he unseated on that day when weakening at the time behind eventual winner Boothill. It’s still likely though that will have blown the cobwebs away and he’ll be a lot more tuned up for this, I think he’s got every chance of making a decent chaser and it would be disappointing should he not go well in this.

My third and final selection of the day comes within the 3:35 which is Mares’ Handicap Chase that’s contested over two miles and four and a half furlongs. I’ve sided with Tweed Skirt in this at 15/8 for Nico de Boinville and Nicky Henderson. She’s clearly been quite a difficult mare to train, as it’s states she’s actually had two wind operations now. However, she’s clearly talented, and it’s a tip in itself that connections are persisting with her. On her most recent outing, she finished fourth of eleven in a Grade 2 Mares Novice event at Newbury, which is probably the strongest bit of form on offer here. I think she has the potential to be better than this level of opposition, and if showcasing that here she could well prove tough to beat for connections who have a fine record at this track.
