1.50 Newmarket – (Princess Royal Stakes) (G3) (1m 4f)
This is a competitive Group 3 affair, with a mix of improving types and horses who are dropping down from higher grades. I think it could be one of the latter that takes it, and that’s Inis Mor for David Menuisier and Ryan Moore. She was third in the French Oaks in June, before following up with an excellent second-place effort in the Irish equivalent behind Johanna Walsh, which is the best form on offer here. She didn’t give her running when last seen in the Yorkshire Oaks when finishing eighth of nine; however, she should be much more competitive, dropped down to Group 3 company here. The Menuisier yard got themselves off the cold list this week, and with Ryan Moore booked, a bold show would be no surprise.

2.25 Newmarket – (Rockfel Stakes) (G2) (7f)
The John & Thady Gosden-trained Spirited Gesture will be a warm order at the top of the market here in the Juddmonte Silks under Colin Keane, a winner of both of her two starts to date; she looks like an exciting prospect and could very well be a top-class filly. However, on this occasion, I’ve gone with the already proven form of Light Of Dawn for the team of Karl Burke and James Doyle. She was a winner on debut in June at Carlisle, before finishing an excellent two-length third at Royal Ascot in the Albany Stakes, before filling out that same position in a French Group 3 in her next outing. Most recently, she had her own day in the sun in Group 3 company, beating the useful Eabha in the Prestige Fillies’ Stakes at Goodwood, and there’s likely more to come. At the current prices, she looks like a solid option.

4.10 Newmarket – (Class 3 Maiden) (7f)
It could pay to side with Ed Walker’s Sole Ambition in this Class 3 maiden, who’s the mount of Kieran Shoemark. He’s a colt by No Nay Never, and has shown a decent level of ability to date, finishing third in both outings. Notably, he did show significant progression from his first outing, when finishing third of fourteen in a likely decent Class 2 maiden at York last month at the Ebor Festival, beaten only three lengths by eventual winner Benjamin Hornigold. A repeat of that level could well be enough to win this, and with further progression likely, he has to be of major interest here. William Haggas’ Quorum looks potentially smart on paper, and is worth a look in the betting.

4.45 Newmarket – (Class 3 Handicap) (1m 1f)
We sign off for the second day of the Cambridgeshire Meeting with a competitive Class 3 handicap over a mile and a furlong. John & Thady Gosden had success here on Wednesday with a dominant display by Gregory, and I think they could add another to their tally here with Go Rimbaud, who’s the mount of Robert Havlin. Whilst this gelding probably won’t reach the levels of their previous winner, he’s still a useful type and has been knocking on the door within handicap company as of late. He was beaten by only a nose on the July course here on his penultimate start, before another narrow miss at Kempton last time out, where he finished second by just three-quarters of a length. He’s a pound higher for his troubles at Kempton here; however, if he continues in the same form, he’s likely to go a place better. This extra furlong could also unlock further improvement.
