1.15 Newmarket – (Class 3 Maiden) (1m)
We get things underway at the Cambridgeshire Meeting on Thursday with the 1.15, and this is a Class 3 maiden over a mile. Charlie Appleby does well with his newcomers, in particular at this track, and I think that he has a very live challenger again here with Code Of Honour, who’s the mount of William Buick. He looks the part on paper, being a colt by Frankel, and related to the likes of very smart milers in Farhh and Racing History. It would be no surprise at all if he made a winning debut here for his powerhouse stable, who have just started hitting serious form in the latter part of the campaign.

1.50 Newmarket – (Premier Fillies’ Handicap) (C2) (6f)
My second bet of the day on Thursday comes within a competitive Class 2 Premier Fillies’ Handicap at 1.50, in which it could pay to back the Irish raider, Bear On The Run, for Daniel Murphy and Ben Coen. She’s far less unexposed than her rivals and could still improve considerably. She won by three and a quarter lengths on her second start at Dundalk, then followed up with a win on her handicap debut at the Curragh. She looks highly progressive, and if she takes another likely step forward, she could take some beating in this.

3.00 Newmarket – (Tattersalls Stakes) (G3) (7f)
We’re up in grade at 3.00 with a competitive-looking renewal of the Group 3 Tattersalls Stakes over seven furlongs. Mezzo Forte progressed notably from his debut run to land a likely decent Class 2 York maiden last time out in comfortable fashion, getting up by two and a half lengths. He’s also out of Majestic Glory, who won the Group 3 Solera Stakes here, and it would be no shock to see him develop into another highly progressive type for the Haggas yard. Ryan Moore also takes over in the saddle, which is always another big tick in the box.

4.10 Newmarket – (Class 4 Handicap) (1m 4f)
I find it hard to get away from the Andrew Balding-trained King Of Berkshire in this Class 4 affair, who’s the mount of Oisin Murphy. There could be a few improvers in the line-up here; however, this three-year-old Camelot colt won in commanding fashion last time out at Windsor, making all by six lengths, and he could prove to still be ‘well in’ for a yard that’s a winning machine. The form of his second-placed effort at Ascot on his penultimate start also looks strong, with the winner now rated a 100, and the fourth-placed horse also winning since.
