Monday 1st June 2026
We return to action at Newbury on Monday, with four selections, and the first of these comes within the 2.15, which is a Class 4 fillies’ maiden over six and a half furlongs. It could pay to side with SCOMMESSA SICURA here, who’s currently trading at a best price of 5/2 for Andrew Balding and Rob Hornby. She posted an encouraing effort on her racecourse debut at Yarmouth in May, where she finished second of eight. She should’ve learnt a significant amount from that run, and a substantial amount of progress is likely coming into her second start here. She should be bang there for her prolific yard. Bai Tong should also feature, given her progression from her first start to second, and Attack Attack might be the newcomer to keep an eye on for George Scott, who has had success with his juveniles so far this term.
We move into handicap company at 2.50, with a Class 4 affair that’s contested over the straight mile. Richard Hannon could hold the key here with RIVER KING, who’s the mount of Pat Dobbs. He won a novice event at Windsor twelve months ago, in what was his final start of the campaign before being gelded. He made his return to the track at Chepstow a couple of weeks ago, where he travelled well throughout the race on that occasion, before finishing a close-up second of six, just half of a length behind the eventual winner. He’s been raised three pounds for that run, but there should be plenty more to come. Classic Encounter is a big threat off the same mark as his win at Redcar last week, and there could be more to come from the unexposed Electrifarhh.
Next up, it’s the 3.25, and this is another Class 4 maiden, this time over six furlongs. Similar to my first selection of the day, this could go down to one with the experience in the book, and I’m strong on JELLYSTONE PARK, who’s my best bet of the afternoon for Jack Channon and Rob Hornby. He progressed markedly from his first outing to finish a nose second of ten at Doncaster in May, knuckling down gamely despite being keen throughout the race. There should almost certainly be more to come from him, and he should be winning a race of this nature sooner rather than later. Newcomer Majestic Ruler has to be of note, being from the Karl Burke, and it would be notable if he’s supported in the betting.
My fourth and final selection comes within the finale at 5.10, and this is a Class 4 handicap over a mile and two furlongs. This could be the day in the sun for TWISTING PHYSICS for Oliver Cole and Jamie Spencer. He’s shown promise in both of his starts to date this term, with his most recent effort coming at Newmarket last month, where he finished fifth of twelve despite an unfavourable draw. He’ll contest this particular affair of the same mark as when winning here over seven furlongs last year, and he looks set for another big run. Nanino Niyati should progress from her racecourse debut for Owen Burrows last month, and is a threat, and the same is likely to be said for Oliver Cole’s other runner, Princess Rascal.
