Thursday 30th April 2026
Kicking things off for me on Thursday will be the 2.48 at Redcar, and this is a Class 5 novice event that’s contested over seven furlongs. I’m strong on the chances of HUNGARIAN here, and he’s my best bet of the day for in-form Lemos De Souza and Kevin Stott. He’s still a maiden after four starts; however, he’s shown that he has ability in each of those starts. He’s finished fifth of twenty, and fourth of twenty-six in two valuable auction races at Newmarket, where in the most recent one he was only four lengths behind the smart Jel Pepper. That’s the best form on offer here by a considerable margin, and if he runs to anywhere near that level again here, he should prove very tough to beat.
My remaining three selections all come from Yarmouth, the first of which is in the 3.15, a Class 4 maiden over a mile. I’ve come down on the William Haggas-trained ADAMLYI here, who’s set to be ridden by Tom Marquand. He’s a Kingman colt who looked as though he would come on significantly following his debut run in September, where he finished fifth at Newmarket. He was well supported in the betting on that occasion, giving the impression that he’s well thought of at home, and he’ll likely be a different proposition on this occasion. A bold showing would be no surprise for his powerhouse connections.
The third selection of the afternoon for me comes within the 3.50, and this is a Class 6 handicap that’s contested over a mile and two furlongs. My next best bet of the day runs here, and this is ALICE DE CLARE for James Fanshawe and George Wood. She showed significant improvement on her handicap debut at Beverley last week, where she finished a neck second of twelve. She pulled six and a half lengths clear of the horse in third on that occasion, and is due to go up seven pounds by the handicapper, making her well in for this assignment off the same mark. She should be bang there at the business end of things here if she turns up in the same form.
My fourth and final selection of the day runs in the closing race at Yarmouth, the 5.30, a Class 5 handicap over a mile. I like DEL CORSO here for the team of Ed Walker and James Doyle. He’s another who posted his best effort to date on handicap debut, in his case, at Nottingham earlier this month, where he finished third of twelve and just half a length behind the eventual winner. He kept on encouraging that day, and he should naturally progress and take a big step forward coming into his second start of the campaign here. He’s up three pounds by the handicapper; however, there should be more to come, and the Walker yard is currently among the winners.
