Thursday’s Best Bet Blog. (22/01/26)

Thursday 22nd January 2026

It’s back over the jumps for us on Thursday, with our best bet blog coming from Wetherby and the 1.20, which is a Class 3 handicap chase that’s contested over two miles and three and a half furlongs. The Olly Murphy-trained PLEASINGTON should hold very strong claims here under the champion jockey Sean Bowen. He was only three-quarters of a length behind the talented Meetmebythesea at this track in November, which is solid form, and put a blip at Aintree quickly behind him when second at Newbury last time out. He seemed to get outpaced over two miles that day, but rallied well to keep on and finish second, giving the impression that this step up in distance will be right up his street. A bold showing would be no surprise.

This is a competitive-looking affair, with many holding chances. Last time out, course and distance winner Genois could prove to be the main danger for Jonjo & A J O’Neil. He kept on well here last month to win by just shy of two lengths, and if he’s in the same form, would have to be respected. Fine Casting would have to be in the equation as well for the team of Ben Pauling & Ben Jones. Things clearly weren’t right at Newbury last time out; however, he kept on well to win at Bangor on his penultimate start.

An outsider to keep an eye on would be the ten-year-old Ned Tanner for Nick Alexander and Sean Quinlan. He’s dropped back below his last winning mark and ran well at Haydock last time out when finishing third.
