We head over to Lingfield on Wednesday for the 1.35, and this is a Class 6 classified event which is contested over a distance of a mile and two furlongs. The Ian Williams yard are currently in flying form, and they could well notch up another success here with MARINAKIS, who’s set to be ridden by five-pound claimer Ryan Kavanagh. He was disappointing at Southwell within handicap company on his first run back following a break, when sent off favourite as he could only manage a ninth-placed finish. However, he put that run well behind him when dropped into classified company at Chelmsford last time out, coming from the rear to stay on strongly and win by a neck. The refitting of cheekpieces seemed to do the trick on that occasion, and he has to be strongly fancied again at this level. Kavanagh also did the steering last time, and a big run is likely.
His main rival looks to come in the form of Wrist Art, who represents James Owen, and is the mount of George Wood. He posted his best effort this yard last time out at Wolverhampton, when finishing third of nine and just a length and a half behind the winner. If he’s in the same form again here, he’ll likely be on the premises. Monks Mead is another who has every chance of going well for Mark Usher and George Bass. He’s been knocking on the door for a while now, and often gives his running without winning at this sort of level. It wouldn’t be a major shock to see him win a classified event sooner rather than later, though.
An outsider here who could run well is Scammer for Gary & Josh Moore, who’s the mount of Tom Queally. He’s not shown a great deal of form within maiden & novice company in his three starts to date; however, he may find this level more to his liking, and he has the scope for improvement, which can’t be said for the majority of his exposed rivals here.
