Newmarket Selections

12.40 Newmarket: Newmarket Challenge Whip Handicap
OPERA WAVE – 2/7 (Win)
Shown much improved form since handicapping, finishing a head second on handicap debut on the July course here on penultimate start, before winning at Southwell last time out. The one to beat here on that form, and should go well again under Jamie Spencer.
1.10 Newmarket: German G1 Racecourses Thank World Pool British EBF Novice Stakes
PRINCLING – 3/1 (Win) (NAP)
Posted a very encouraging effort on racecourse debut last time out at Kempton, finishing a nose second of twelve, when staying on strongly to just be denied behind a well-backed Godolphin runner, who’s likely smart. Should take a big step forward here, and has to be considered a significant player.
1.40 Newmarket: 156 Grosser Preis Von Baden Handicap
TIGER TULIP – 11/1 (Each-Way)
Unable to fire at Ascot last time out, however, that was a Class 2 event, and these are much calmer waters at Class 4 level. Ran well at Goodwood on her penultimate start off a three-pound higher mark, and should be considerably more competitive here.
2.12 Newmarket: Irish Stallion Farms EBF ‘Bosra Sham’ Fillies’ Stakes
SPICY MARG – 7/2 (Win) (NB)
Sets the standard here on the back of her length and a half fourth behind Beckford’s Folly here in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes last time out. She’s finished races out well over five furlongs previously, giving the impression that the six here should be fine, and she’s the one to beat.
2.47 Nemarket: Westminster-136 Grosser Preis Von Berlin Novice Stakes
CASTLE ROCK – 4/9 (Win)
Progressed from racecourse debut to win here last time out, with that success coming over seven furlongs, and within Class 2 company. Breeding suggests that he should be fine with a drop down to six here, and Toby Moore’s seven-pound claim should make him very tough to beat.
3.22 Newmarket: Munich’s Grosser Dallmayr-Preis Handicap
MOUNT KING – 6/1 (Each-Way) (Treble)
Back down to last winning mark, and significantly down in grade, having run with credit in Class 2 company last time out. He’s also versatile ground-wise, and it would be disappointing should he not post a bold bid here.
3.57 Newmarket: German G1 Racecourses Thank World Pool Handicap
HUGGABLE – 6/1 (Each-Way)
Progressive within handicaps this term, and a six-length winner at Epsom three starts ago. Finished runner-up in two runs following that, on surfaces ranging from good to firm to soft. She likely has more to offer and can have a big say under Toby Moore, who takes seven pounds off her back.
