THURSDAY SELECTIONS
2.50 Southwell: SPARTACUS WARRIOR – 13/2 (Each-Way) (4 places)
My first selection of the day comes from Southwell and within the 2.50, which is a Class 6 nursery handicap over six furlongs. Sparticus Warrior should go well here for Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood, who’s the mount of Tom Eaves. He ran well on handicap debut at Beverley in July, finishing second of five over seven and a half furlongs. He weakened in the closing stages that day, which suggests a drop back down to six here should suit. He’s on a two-pound lower mark for this assignment on the all-weather and should give a good account.

3.20 Southwell: PIPERSTOWN – 6/1 (Each-Way)
For my second selection of the afternoon, I’ve come down on Piperstown in the 3.20 at Southwell, which is a Class 6 handicap over six furlongs. He’s trained by Kevin Frost and is ridden by William Pyle here, who takes off three pounds. The four-year-old is a course and distance winner, and whilst he wasn’t at his best here last time out, he’ll contest this particular affair off the same mark as his last winning one, with an extra three pounds coming off his back via his rider. That certainly puts him into calculations, and he should have every chance of going well again here.

4.25 Southwell: OUTRUN THE STORM – 15/2 (Each-Way) (4 places)
My third and final selection of the afternoon comes within the 4.25 at Southwell, and this is a Class 5 handicap over seven furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Outrun The Storm in this particular contest for the team of Richard Fahey and Oisin Orr. He’ll contest this off a career-low mark, and seven pounds below his most recent success, which came at Chester last summer, within a higher grade. He was also narrowly denied at that track on his penultimate start when a neck second of thirteen, with that run coming off just a pound higher mark and within Class 4 company. He should be competitive at a minimum in this grade and off his current mark.
