Wednesday’s Best Bets
3.03: Thirsk
GENTLE TOUCH – 9/4 (Win)
We have three potentially progressive horses at the top of the betting here; however, under P J McDonald, it could be Saeed bin Suroor’s Gentle Touch that comes out on top. She made a very pleasing return to the track at Wetherby last month, when finishing second of twelve behind a well-fancied horse, and kept to her task well that day, giving the impression that a step up to a mile here should suit her. She should also naturally progress further coming into her second start of the campaign here, and she should have a big say.
3.33: Thirsk
THE GOOD BISCUIT – 7/1 (Each-Way)
I’m staying at Thirsk for my second selection of the day, and this one comes within a Class 5 handicap over seven furlongs. It may be worth giving a chance to The Good Biscuit here to finally get his head in front within handicap company for Ruth Carr. He’s not been running badly in defeat for the majority of this campaign, and his mark has continued to tumble to what now looks like a fairly dangerous one. He’ll contest this particular affair off nine pounds lower than when finishing third on his seasonal reappearance at Ripon behind Dakota Gold in Class 4 company, and the step back up to seven could suit.
7.58: Epsom
SUDU – 11/8 (Win) (NAP)
It’s over to Epsom’s evening meeting for my third selection and the 7.58, which is a Class 4 handicap that’s contested over a mile and four furlongs. Roger Varian’s Sudu makes considerable appeal here for me, who’s set to be ridden by Ray Dawson. He looks a progressive type and was very unlucky on his handicap debut at Newbury last month, in what was a decent contest for a Class 4 event. He didn’t get a clear run on several occasions throughout the race, and still finished a very promising fourth of twelve, and just three lengths behind eventual winner Circus Of Rome. He’ll contest this off the same mark, and I think he has a huge chance.
9.00: Epsom
MISS COLLADA – 5/1 (Each-Way) (NB)
My fourth and final selection of the day also comes from Epsom, and within the 9.00, where we have another Class 4 handicap, and this time over seven furlongs. I’m fairly strong on the chances of Miss Collada here for the team of Richard Hannon and Sean Levey. She’s knocked on the door several times already this season, including most recently at Newmarket at the back end of last month when finishing third of ten and two and a quarter lengths behind the winner. She’ll contest this off the same mark as that Newmarket effort, which is four pounds below her last winning one, and if getting some luck at what can be a cruel track here, she can go well.
