Monday’s Best Bets
2.30: Pontefract
TRY STORM CAT – 10/11 (Win) (NAP)
Charlie Johnston’s two-year-old should have enough experience in the bank to see off the newcomers here, he’s already shown a solid level of form in his two starts to date, placing in both, and was only a head behind the winner last time out at Hamilton when second of eleven over today’s distance. It would be disappointing if he didn’t get his head in front relatively soon, and another bold showing here should be on the cards. Rossa Ryan takes over from Jason Hart.
3.45: Ffos Las
GIRLS NIGHT OUT – 7/2 (Win) (NB)
This is a tricky low-grade Class 6 handicap; however, it may pay to side with Girls Night Out for Owen Burrows and David Probert. She posted an encouraging effort on her seasonal reappearance at Windsor earlier this month when finishing fourth of ten, which was also her handicap debut. She kept to her task that day, and she should progress coming into her second start here. She can post a bold bid off a pound lower mark in this particular assignment, the soft ground shouldn’t be an issue as her sire was a heavy-ground winner.
4.00: Pontefract
MIDNIGHT LIR – 5/1 (Each-Way)
In what looks likes an ultra-competitive Class 5 sprint, Michael Dod’s Midnight Lir could be the answer, who’s the mount of Connor Beasley. He posted his best effort for a while when he was last seen at Beverley, finishing a head second of nine, and has only been nudged up a couple of pounds for his trouble there. The form of that race has also worked out, and he’s still considerably lower than his last winning mark.
4.15: Ffos Las
GOLDEN THORN – 7/1 (Each-Way) (4 places)
My fourth and final selection comes within the 4.15 at Ffos Las, where we have Class 5 handicap action over a mile. Golden Thorn appeals here for the Andrew Balding yard, who’s the mount of Jason Watson. She ran a solid race at Sandown on her return to the track earlier this month, keeping to her task well when eventually finishing fifth. The handicapper has been kind by dropping her a further pound, and the step back up to a mile here looks like the correct move. She should go well for an in-form yard.
