York Ebor Festival Day 2 Preview

1.50: Sky Bet Lowther Stakes: Day Two of the Ebor Festival gets underway on Thursday at 1.50 with the Group 2 Lowther Stakes for the fillies over six furlongs. I’ve sided with Celandine in the opener for Ed Walker and Tom Marquand. She’s a speedy filly who’s already tasted Listed success this term at Newmarket and ran well in the Group 3 Molecamb Stakes at Goodwood last time out over five furlongs. I think there’s more to come from her and she can make her presence felt in this particular affair back up to six furlongs. Celandine – 15/2 (Each-Way)
2.25: Harry’s Half Million By Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes: Next up is the 2.25 which is the Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes over six furlongs where we have a quarter of a million pounds up for grabs for the winner. I like the chances of Arizona Blaze here for Adrian Murray and David Egan. He carries top weight here as he’s already a Group 3 winner and has also placed in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, as well as finishing third in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh last time out. He’s clearly got plenty of ability and I make him the one to beat in this. Arizona Blaze – 5/2 (Win)
3.00: Clipper Handicap: We move into handicap company at 3.00 with a Class 2 Heritage Handicap that’s ridden over a mile. I’m going to take a chance on Metal Merchant here who’s currently trading at a best price of 9/1 with the firms that are offering six places. He pretty much gives his running in each of these competitive handicaps that he runs in, and that was the case once more on his most recent outing at Ascot last month where he finished fourth of eighteen over seven furlongs. He was staying on last time and this step up back to a mile should suit for a yard that are once again in solid form. Metal Merchant – 9/1 (Each-Way) (6 places – Sky Bet, Paddy Power & Betfair)
3.35: Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks: The feature race of the afternoon comes up at 3.35 and that’s the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks over a mile and four furlongs. I’m strong on the chances of Queen Of The Pride here for John & Thady Gosden who’s the mount of Oisin Murphy. I’ve been really impressed with her this term and she took her form to the next level when the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks on her most recent start by three lengths. This track should suit her and if she progresses again I think she’ll be very tough to beat. Queen Of The Pride – 11/4 (Win) (NAP)
4.10: British EBF & Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes: It’s more action for the fillies & mares up next as the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes takes centre-stage over a mile and four furlongs. I think this is all about Sea Just In Time here who currently heads the betting for William Haggas and Tom Marquand. She was disappointing in her last try in Listed company at Goodwood but has won in smart style on either side of that run and I think she can make amends here for that Goodwood effort. She’s clearly very well thought of by connections and the yard won the race last year with Sea Theme. Sea Just In Time – 2/1 (Win) (NB)
4.45: sensory-junction.co.uk Autism Awareness EBF Stallions Nursery Handicap: My final selection of the day comes in the 4.45 which is a nursery handicap over seven furlongs. I’m with Original Outlaw here for Ralph Beckett and Hector Crouch who’s currently a 13/2 chance with six places on offer. He looked the winner at Goodwood last time out before being picked up close to home by his stablemate Mr Chaplin and his time should surely be near. He’s up six pounds for that run but that might not be enough to stop another bold show if he’s to progress again from that last effort. Original Outlaw – 13/2 (Each-Way) (6 places – Sky Bet)
