All-Weather Finals Day

Feature Meeting: Newcastle

1.18: BetMGM Burradon Stakes: Kicking things off on All-Weather Finals Day at Newcastle is the Listed Burradon Stakes over a mile. I’m with Orne here for the team of John & Thady Gosden and Rob Havlin. He has to give weight to his rivals here as a result of a Group 3 success last term at Newmarket, however, judging by that bit of form I think he may well have a class edge here. Most recently he was second in a valuable race in Doha before once again hitting the frame in listed company last time. He looks very solid and therefore is the one for me. Orne – 7/2 (Win)

1.53: BetUK All-Weather Championships Marathon Handicap: The second race of the afternoon is the 1.53 which is the Marathon over two miles and half of a furlong. I’ve sided with Vaguely Royal here who’s another contender for John & Thady Gosden and this time the mount of Oisin Murphy. He won a couple of handicaps over the winter, including one here and showed on his most recent outing that this sort of trip won’t be an issue when keeping on here over two miles to finish third. He still looks progressive and has every chance of going close again. Vaguely Royal – 15/2 (Each-Way)

2.25: All-Weather 3 Year Old Championships Handicap: Next up it’s the 2.25 which is the three-year-old contest over six furlongs. I’m taking a chance on Havana Ball here for Archie Watson and Luke Morris. She’s currently a 12/1 chance in the betting and I think that’s a very fair price for what looks like a progressive filly. This is her first start within handicap company and she comes into the race having finishing third of twelve within Listed company last time out at Chantilly. I think if she progressive again from that effort she’s got every chance of outrunning those odds. Havana Ball – 12/1 (Each-Way)

3.00: BetMGM Fillies’ And Mares’ Championships Handicap: The fourth race of the afternoon is the Fillies and Mares contest which is ridden over seven furlongs. I find it hard to oppose Nine Tenths here for William Haggas and Jack Enright who takes seven pounds off her back. She’s progressed nicely over the winter with her form culminating with success in the Listed Lady Wulfruna stakes last time out at Wolverhampton. I think that there could well be more to come from here and she looks a very live player here, especially having seven pounds removed from her rider. Nine Tenths – 5/2 (Win) (NAP)

3.35: BetUK All-Weather Sprint Handicap: We move onto the 3.35 now which is the sprint handicap over a distance of six furlongs. I’m with Misty Grey here who’s currently trading at a massive price of 20/1 for David O’Mera and Rossa Ryan. He was second behind Nine Tenths last time out in the Lady Wulfruna and travelled strongly that day into the straight. That was his best run for some time and his two starts for O’Meara to date have been very encouraging. He’s won several times over this distance and I believe he’s got every chance of getting into the frame at a big price. Misty Grey – 20/1 (Each-Way)

4.10: BetUK All-Weather Easter Classic Middle Distance Handicap: The penultimate race of the afternoon is the 4.10 and this is the middle distance handicap over a mile and two furlongs. I like Elegant Man here for Adrian Murray and David Egan. He’s an Arrogate colt who’s looked a potentially useful sort in his short career to date, he was placed in listed company behind the smart Rebel’s Romance back in December and got the better of the useful Tyson Fury at Dundalk last time out, with that rival since coming out and winning. I think he looks set for a big effort here and I’d be surprised if he wasn’t bang there at the finish. Elegant Man – 11/2 (Each-Way)

4.40: All-Weather Championships Mile Handicap: Signing us off for the day will be the 4.40 which is the mile race where we have fourteen runners currently set to go to post. Of those fourteen, it’s Symbol Of Light who I like for Julie Camacho and Ryan Sexton. He looked a smart prospect when with Charlie Appleby a few years ago, winning three on the bounce before a large lay-off and a wind operation. He’s since proven that he still retains ability for his new yard though, placing in his last three outings with his most recent effort coming last time out at Kempton when he went down by just a nose, and he’ll contest this off the same mark. A bold showing here would be no surprise. Symbol of Light – 11/2 (Each-Way)
