Feature Meeting: Thurles
2.40: Leugh Beginners Chase: We go to Ireland for this week’s Tuesday Preview and kicking things off for us at Thurles is the 2.40 which is a beginner’s chase over two miles and five furlongs. I’m with Brucejack here for Pete Fahy and Michael O’Sullivan. He posted his best effort to date last time out at Punchestown when finishing fourth and just under three lengths behind the winner. He’s got a lot of experience now over fences and should be going well in an ordinary contest such as this. Brucejack – 6/1 (Each-Way)
3.40: ThurlesRaces.ie Maiden Hurdle: My second selection of the afternoon comes in the 3.40 which is a maiden hurdle that’s ridden over two miles. I like the chances of Touch Me Not here for the team of Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy, sporting the famous Gigginstown silks. He was third on his hurdling debut behind a couple of likey promising types for Willie Mullins and Henry De Bromhead, and well clear of the remainder of the field. He should be building on that run here and give a very good account of himself. Touch Me Not – 11/4 (Win)
4.10: Killinan Handicap Hurdle: Moving on now to the 4.10 which is handicap hurdle action over a distance of two miles. I’ve sided with Depeche Mo here for Eric Larkin and Nial Moore who takes off seven pounds. He comes into the race having posted a couple of encouraging placed efforts within handicaps and will contest this race off effectively a seven-pound lower mark than his second-placed effort last time out, taking his rider’s claim into consideration. If he turns up in the same kind of form to what he’s been in as of late, he should go close. Depeche Mo – 15/2 (Each-Way)
5.10: Thurles Handicap Hurdle: My fourth and final selection on Tuesday comes in the 5.10 which is more handicap hurdle action, this time ridden over two miles and seven and a half furlongs. This is a competitive affair and I’ve come down on Native Speaker who represents Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore. He was twelve lengths second and clear of the rest behind the promising Built By Barrymore last time out in maiden company, and that rival’s fancied for handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival. That’s solid form, and he gave the impression on that occasion that this slightly further trip should suit. A bold showing would be no surprise. Native Speaker – 4/1 (Win) (NAP)
